We outplayed and outfought them, they were extremely fortunate, Andersen and Guéhi look tremendous.

Conor Gallagher's comments, which I think are telling. From the BBC's , so most of you won't believe them anyway.......

Crystal Palace's Conor Gallagher speaking to Sky Sports: "It hurts so much - throughout the whole game we played so well, defended brilliantly and worked so hard. It feels like a loss to be honest, we had the three pints there and then a lack of concentration loses us two points. Everyone's gutted.

"It's just concentration, a minute left, we'd never blame an individual, it's a team thing and everyone is gutted. There's stuff to learn from for sure."

"On overall Palace performance: "Unreal - we played brilliantly. Brighton are a good side - they've showed that at the start of the season - so the way we performed was great. We showed what we can do. If it wasn't for that lack of concentration we would be coming back with three points.

"We didn't want them to dictate and we controlled that well, won the ball high up the pitch, caused them problems but at the end of the day it's done."

On Patrick Vieira: "He's brilliant, he's a great guy, a great manager, I love working with him. Always smiling and happy which makes it comfortable for us players, I'm loving it."

He didn’t scuff his kick - he can’t kick - bring in Butland, Hughes and Olise.

We had played goalkicks to a Palace player in the box all night to keep possession. Why he decided to boot it back to them, only he knows.

My 2 cents is: Even though Edourad did not score he did great job with the high press and forced passing errors on the bright scum. Benteke did not do that and this allowed the weed to play in our half. Kouyate was partly responsible for the weed goal as he switched off after the miskick by Guaita. Edourd may not be so great aerially, and might need to be serviced differently. Why Guaita with seconds on the clock did not play it long and wide I dont know. With 5 minutes to go Tekkers took it to the corner post to try to run down the clock! In the end, a draw is not too far from a fair result. The Welbeck penalty could have been given, but then again Ayew needed to put that goal away but there had been some luck in the ball getting to him. We were the better side for sure. Bitter pill. PV's project is still a work in progress.

I genuinely feel sick. We played so well today. Ayew should have scored his sitter to give us a cushion, and Guita’s error at the end. Painful…

And I know it’s not popular with some to bash Benteke, but bringing him on is like going down to 10 men. All the pace, the pressing, the energy - it just evaporates…

I’m pleased with the way our football is going though. So refreshing after negative Hodgson. Roll on the next.

After seasons of Royball, watching the team the way they played tonight was a real pleasure .. absolutely gutted of course but the progress is phenomenal.

On the bench at Chelsea and getting a few minutes in the cups

these things happen, I'd say Ayew is more culpable for us not winning than Guaita - though it wasn't just the awful kick he was stranded, maybe he struggled to raise his arm after that shoulder injury. But it's clear that the quicker we phase out Ayew, Macca and Luka and replace with Hughes, Eze and Olise, the better. Wardy was great tonight, maybe without Ayew protecting him he'd struggle more (some have argued) but Ayew made some defensive errors tonight too, and I thought MacArthur was very poor offensively, Luka was tidy enough but pretty meh, can't say enough about Gallagher, he's like David Wright on half a kilo of speed, how many challenges in key areas, never seen a work ethic like his, I don't think he'll get into Chelsea's first XI so you never know!

The game changed when CB came on, he can't press and has no aerial threat. He must go

Agreed. We lost the press after he came on and he added nothing to the game.

Horrific but I suppose it's karma for our smash and grab in February and at least we didn't lose, that's 5 unbeaten against them now.

Sadly Ayew will be the fall guy for that. Absolutely shocking missed chance and I'm afraid he just doesn't create enough either. Andros didn't score many from the right but put in some good crosses. I'd like to see Olise get a start as industry just isn't enough at this point and our front three need to score more.

It was a brilliant performance and we could be scarily good once the new guys are all bedded in properly. Getting bored of talking about how good Gallagher is. Unreal player.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...
