Perhaps, I just think that if none of this were true they would have clamped down on the media.

But like you say I could be wrong.

Here's to some wins.

I suspect Parish has learned the hard way to be very wary of the media i.e. tell them nothing. The market knows we want something, it doubles the price e.g. land values for new training ground. However, I suspect this is tinged with a degree of paranoia.

I don't want him to be a shouty, over communicative boss - we've had them - but perhaps a little more engagement on stadium development, broad plans on squad expansion, finance issues etc. may mean we speculate less. After all, what he knows and won't say, "they" probably know anyway.

We have to be so careful about changing the manager at this critical stage of the season, generally fans hounding managers out does not work and usually results in relegation and a downward spiral to league 1 or beyond. The facts are that Roy has kept us up for the past four years with the club spending very little on improving the team and in some cases it has extended contracts of players who have lost any ability they may have had or who are permanently injured. None of these problems are Roy's fault he has just got on with the job using the limited tools he has when other would have walked away a long while ago. The fallacy that having a class one academy is going to solve our problems is just not true, the facts are that one percent of potential players who enter at age 9 will then go on to make it to any professional level in football and again only 180 of the 1.5million playing organised youth football will go on make a career in football. Like it or not we have to invest substantially in this squad if we want to keep in the PL in the years ahead. this means the Americans will have to invest more of their huge wealth otherwise I cannot see, when the time comes that any half decent Manager would want a job that is doomed to failure.

I wonder what our Prem legacy would be if we get relegated? Lots of clubs have a shiny new ground, or stand, to half-fill after time in the Prem. I guess ours would have the be the academy, which we would no-doubt need to rely on more heavily if we went down.

Well we will still have those flashing digital advertising hoardings round the perimeter of the pitch.

Seriously, who would be better than Eddie Howe and likely to come to Palace? I don’t think Nigel Pearson is the answer, for example.

In the likely event that we are relegated, we would not be able to get Howe to join the club.
Nigel Pearson is going to Bristol City as manager.

Thats probably why we won't get Eddie Howe or even anyone decent at the moment as apart from tactical and motivation factor there hands will be tied with this ageing group of players with the threat of relagation looming ? Its a case of wait and see for managerial candidates as well as fans .

Unless we get new owners it is going to be very a much a case of finding a manager who can deliver some form of entertainment and points but on a relatively small budget. When you think that Bournemouth's net spend over the last 5 years is almost three times ours that does have to be considered when looking at Eddie. However, he seems the most obvious candidate if Parish wants to move in a new direction.

While I don't think Roy really understands why fans are unhappy, he is right that to crack the top 10 is really beyond our means at the moment. The current top 10 are all clubs who have spent hundreds of millions to get there, while all of the clubs in the bottom half have spent less (gross) than those in the top half. I have heard it said before that by and large the table reflects what you put in.

That is a good fit I would think. And he could get that club firing on all cylinders again, in the Championship. If he gets a promotion, then his troubles return. Our problem, may be that most candidates for our job are of that standard, I suspect Howe , would be no better without money spent.

Agreed, and also the training ground, which we bought quite early on with the promotion money although I think the deal was in the pipeline already.

I often think about the legacy of the Noades / Coppell era. I reckon it amounts to four main things:

Saving a dying club from going bust. And it would have done, no doubt.

The remarkable on-pitch memories. Just priceless, possibly never to be repeated let alone topped.

The Holmesdale and Whitehorse Lane end stands, and conversion of the Arthur to an all seater stand. If the value of the club to new owners or the bank you are in debt to is tied, at least in part, to the cost of making an old, 1980s football ground meet Taylor Report requirements, then where would we have been without the mid 90s redevelopments? Even when we didn't own the ground, we at least had secure tenure at a relatively modern ground compared to so many of our peers at that time.

Putting Palace back on the map and in people's minds locally, and to some extent, nationally. We seemed to have lost a generation of fans after the team of the 80s fell apart, and without the 1990 team, would we have started the new one, or got any of the older ones back?

If it all went wrong and we got relegated this season, CPFC 2010 would have saved the club (again), corrected decades of under investment and lost ground regarding the youth set up and training grounds, had our longest period in the top flight ever with plenty of great memories, and a steady growth in the commercial sides of the club as expected from a longer stay in the top flight.

Personally I'd reckon that if they can build the new stand (which as you say, we could all rattle around inside in the championship), and crucially if they stay at the helm and continue to run the business sustainably, ensuring the club exists for future generations, they would have more than topped the Noades era.

Anyway, back to Eddie Howe. Doubt he'd want to jump in now. He'd have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

What you say is fair to a point. But if we fail to score against Brighton and put in yet another inept performance similar to recent games whilst shipping yet more goals, the question that needs to be asked is, would another manager do any worse? Possibly, but a new manager lift may be needed just to survive this year.

IMO our problems have been building up for around 2 years now. This is obviously just my take on it and I don’t expect many, if any to agree and I don’t really care to be honest, however I blame the management structure from top to bottom for our current dilemma. The owners for not putting their hands in their pockets, the scouting team for not finding the right players to rejuvenate our squad, the coaches for perhaps pushing our elderly squad too hard in training hence the massive amount of training ground injuries and our manager for not pushing hard enough for new players and his bizarre selections, playing players out of position and failure to implement alternative tactics and timely substitutes during the course of a match. It just strikes me as being a set up that is in decline from top to bottom.

Some love to be dramatic and call this bed wetting or whatever petty juvenile insult they care to use stating our current points total as justification, however we are a team in steep decline and the bottom line is this.

1) We have a squad that is no longer fit for purpose in the PL.

2) We rely almost solely on one player to successfully attain points in a match and he will most likely leave this year.

3) We are told by many on here that due to FFP we have no money to invest. I am not sure of the truth in this but it certainly appears we have owners who are not willing to spend money.

4) We are top of the league for injuries and regularly appear towards the top of the league in this statistic.

5) We have a manager on £4.5m per annum who appears happy to plod along in the knowledge of all the above.

It all sounds very over the top doesn’t it, but where does it end? If we survive this year, which you would hope we will given the quality of other teams in the league, can anyone honestly see us staying in the PL next year without a total review of our playing staff and significant investment?

Happy for anyone to put a positive spin on anything I have mentioned. This is a discussion forum after all.
