The whole basis of your arguments revolve around the person making the comment rather than the matter in hand. There is a pattern to your posting that is mostly antagonistic. If you cannot simply debate the subject there is no point in conversing with you.

I agree with the general thrust of your comments Willo. The bigger picture suggests that the overhaul of the squad is tied into the Academy, which has come to fruition a couple of seasons too late, because we are treading a very fine line with our ageing squad this season. However it is what it is, and should we survive I for one expect to see a very different starting 11 next season. With contract renewals coming up, I think it is fair to say that some players who have been excellent servants for the club cannot compete at this fierce top level anymore. Dann, Ward, Kelly, Jimmy Mac, Townsend, Benteke, all need to be released and replaced. Edited by southnorwoodhill (01 Dec 2020 10.30am) We have some decent academy players who dont get on the bench let alone the pitch. If you are losing with your regulars what's the difference losing with a couple of kids. Might as well give it a go early season rather than at the end when your regulars are burnt out and you find out the kids arnt good enough just yet.

We really need to be addressing the issue of players out of contact in the summer during the January window.

Offer a striker in his 30s, who has scored 6 PL goals in the previous 3 seasons an extended contract on £100K+ a week and we just might manage to get £50 in the transfer market. My instincts would not allow me to gallivant down this path and I suspect supporters would be aghast should Benteke's contract be extended. Edited by Willo (01 Dec 2020 12.43pm)

My point related to a broader discussion about players out of contract rather than the narrower one about Benteke in isolation.

To renew and revitalise the squad a good few would need to be moved on, for free if need be. There's not much transfer value to be had unless teams in the Championship want to stump up £1/2/3 million for the likes of Ward and Dann. The thought of the Palace gravy train extending contracts to players who are quite frankly finished at this level is baffling. The Premiership is a harsh place.

So do we seek to sell them in January if they are surplus to requirements or if they won’t re-sign where we wish to retain them?
