Aim for a Championship manager with ambition... Needs new owners though! Who do you have in mind ? Neil Warnock has a good record in the Championship!

Paddy McCarthy is the one. Big gamble but when Freedman and Lawrence walked out for Bolton's money he ran the dressing room and the home match against Brighton we won 3 nil when that clown Holloway was announced manager, McCarthy was running it. He is a good tactician not scared to change tactics and is respected by all players. But any managerial change has to come with sacking Freedman and letting the manager identify players.

Interesting post. Agree with you totally re: freedman/transfers etc. but McCarthy oculd be a good wildcard shout. Used to go to the gym in Beckenham and saw him in there once with a few young lads. Very imposing man but he was a lovely fella and seemed to have good rapport but authority with the kids. His face sticks in my mind whenever I think back to that game vs Sheffield Wednesday, admittedly did not go but realised it was over (in packed pub unable to hear) when I saw his face and the reaction.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Not this again. He was very difficult to work with for everyone at the training ground, turned the players off him in the days of needing them on your side, and allegedly showed no interest in any of our potential targets but didn’t have any of his own either. That’s all before playing systems and formations needing a fortune spent on it we didn’t have and unsuited to the players and players so far out of position you’d think he was the opposition. We’re yet to see him return to a big league for the reasons I’ve stated. Approached the job as if he had an amazing track record at a huge club. He isn’t Jurgen Klopp or similar. He’s an excellent retired player but that means sh1t these days to players. If you can’t cut it at the training ground you’re screwed. That's an interesting synopsis. Possibly some of those criticisms are valid. As a player he won a lot its true and he won a few titles with Ajax. I think the Ajax way is to promote from within. 4 games is nothing though - Eddie Howe's Bournemouth also lost their first 4 that season. FdB also coming to a new country with barely a pre season to work with players and without Zaha in those first 4 league games. You or anybody else who didn't back him have no right to complain now. Parish pushed the panic button - and that is as much to do with fan pressure than any reasoned logic

My interpretation of your message was that Howe kept his job despite losing his first 4 games in contrast to FDB.I asserted that Howe had more credit in the bank because of Bournemouth's position the previous season and the way they finished.Perhaps I am way off the mark in this respect! In the final analysis, no manager loses his job after 4 games on results alone. Edited by Willo (13 Feb 2020 8.58pm)

We lost our first 7 games that season irrespective of who was manager and until Zaha returned v Chelski

And as we all know that despite losing the first 7 PL games without scoring a single goal, Hodgson steered us to an 11th place position which was some feat in the circumstances.
