I don't believe a word of it. Come the next leadership election in a few years, BJ will walk it; and Gove will be on his ticket as Chancellor. They are playing a long game.

Hope you had a good evening with your pals,Willo. Given what you have written there, I`d say that makes you more informed than most on here re. the true mechanics of the Conservative Party. So, I`d like to ask a couple (or four for the pedantic) of questions. 1. Who would you like to be the next Conservative leader, and why? I`m genuinely interested in knowing. Edited by lankygit (01 Jul 2016 1.41am) 1.To be perfectly honest I am still considering the options regarding the new leader of my party so as yet my mind is not made up on this important matter. 2. At this moment in time I don't have a view but this all could change quite soon ! Given the surprise regarding Boris Johnson and Michael Gove, perhaps predictions at this stage are unwise ! I was stunned with the developments yesterday regarding these two "Big hitters". Edited by Willo (01 Jul 2016 8.56am)

Good shout - do they really want to be associated with post-Brexit chaos, when they can present themselves as the gallant toffs riding to the rescue of Blighty a bit further down the line?

Cameron had the Referendum to resolve a party split. Since the Brexiters won, it is right that the party should reflect that in it's leadership. They clearly didn't want Boris even though he would have been popular with many Tory voters. Gove is the strongest Brexiter but May although weakly Remain could be a better PM. If she pursues the BREXIT ambitions and appoints a BREXITER, possibly Gove, to head a negotiation team, that could work quite well as a compromise.

It's resolved sod all and he promised the referendum to woo potential UKIP voters back to the Tory fold in last year's GE. Boris has done a runner. The coward. And Gove is untrustworthy. Remainer May for PM? Almost certainly. The Brexit camp is a mess and have lead us down an ill-thought out, and looking like more and more, a self-destructive road. Hopefully, someone with a bit of sense with indicate and get off that thoroughfare sharp-ish.

Totally and utterly disagree. Edited by Willo (01 Jul 2016 10.42am) I don't think there can be any disagreement that the Brexit camp is in disarray. Their lead campaigner has had to retire from the race because his key supporter stabbed him in the back. And they are reneging or backtracking on just about every promise or hint they gave during the campaign. May looks nailed on to be leader. She was always only campaigning Remain to tow the party the line. She can just about bring the two camps to heel. So makes sense. I think Gove has finished himself as a front bench politician. It's the second time in this campaign he has actively stabbed in the back someone who he was meant to be close to and makes him look completely untrustworthy (Cameron - his good friend by coming out for Leave, and then Johnson). I can't see how anyone would want him anywhere near them at the top again.
