Bentenke just takes too long to make a decision these days. I don't know why, but when you watch him he no longer seems to have any striker's instinct and those few extra seconds he needs allows defenders to recover. You can't blame Roy for that. With regard to Wilf and Andros, last season Zaha was very effective at cutting in so that he could shoot with his right foot and similarly Townsend did the same from the right. The issue for me is not that they are on the wrong sides but that only one of them has been fit this season and he has not been the same player he was last season (aside from two or three games). Furthermore, how often does Wilf beat one, two even three defenders only to cut it back to the edge of the 6-yard box and there be no striker. Also, when Andros plays on the right he cuts back and effectively delivers crosses which curl in towards the goal. Zaha, to my memory, does not deliver high crosses very often and prefers to deliver low balls with his left or right foot.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Giving next season a miss' by Midlands Eagle It’s going to be a relegation year next year, more dull unexciting football, no kids coming through, no decent signings. Will wait until we are back in the Championship. Flush out the American owners who have done nothing for this club since they have been here, change the whole leadership team and start again. Games on Saturday at 3.00, chance of exciting football, no big money clubs killing the game for global revenues, what’s not to like?

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Giving next season a miss' by Midlands Eagle IMO being a Palace fan is all about taking a perverse amount of pride in the team being utterly s*** most of the time. Don't renew your season ticket or watch every match if you don't want to, but I don't think you can fully pause your support of the team and still consider yourself a fan.

Does anyone remember Division Three or the Mullery era? I know we are hopeless in front of goal and dragging our heals on building the new stand but let's keep things in a proper context. This is our best ever period of sustained top flight football by miles, ever.

The Big Mals adventures in the old Div 3 were quite enjoyable and it did lead to the eventual promotion in 79.

I think Zaha can’t lift the ball with his weaker left foot rather than chooses to deliver low balls.

Games on Saturday at 3.00, chance of exciting football, no big money clubs killing the game for global revenues, what’s not to like? I’m not that confident of us flushing out the Americans after relegation, how it would happen or if it would be any better. But that’s the unknown, or be careful what you wish for. Relegation would be financially crippling with the contracts and ageing players on big wages few clubs will want. It could take a few years before you get your enjoyment back in the championship after we’ve probably been tonked by everyone more often than not, including millwall again and again, probably Charlton and possibly Brighton in at least one cup. This is why all the praise for Parish overseeing our most successful period in our history is on hold for me. Because it’s built on sand with zero foundations beneath it. If we do overhaul the squad with the healthier and more sustainable mix of players then I’ll say fair play to Parish and accept relegation in the knowledge we’re in a good place. Without that it’s just been buying experienced players near retirement in big wages. There isn’t anything clever about that in the long term. It’s just delaying the inevitable and making it worse when it happens. Overhaul the squad and use whatever strategy or cash from Zaha effectively is what I’m waiting to see us do.

How can you “ flush “ people out when it’s known that they want to sell anyway !?! And I would expect their investment to take a huge knock if we are relegated. It’s obvious that the club is not being run on a sustainable level at the moment. A reset is needed but my problem is that I have little faith in the people making decisions at the club

It's not all doom and gloom. The manager and board know we need to freshen things up and have identified targets to strengthen the squad. Freeman's been working his socks off and has identified a couple of gems. Some Murray guy from Brighton and some fella called Bolasie are on their way to Selhurst in the summer.

Like it or not, we probably would have needed to outbid West Ham. Our investments at that level MUST work, as Tekkers and Sakho proved. From what I saw they went to 22m and gave a relegation clause. Quite high. Not saying no.
