Agreed.
Neither pro or anti Hodgson will ever be able convince the other of the merits of the other’s argument so it’s all pretty pointless to prolong the debate.
As an aside, there is a very good analysis by Dominic Fifield of the difficulties the whole club face in The Athletic this morning.
Can’t post a link but worth accessing if you get a chance.

Jus been reading Roy's bizarre comments on why he let CW go on loan. Apparently now we have 3 centre forwards in Tosun (injured), Ayew and Benteke, CW would have struggled to get any game time with us. This depsite him scoring at Norwich and effectively forcing the equalizer at Man City. So he starts with Benteke who really cannot score a goal to save his life and has no forward on the bench.

Also his comments about Bowen - we were only ever interested in a loan from Hull with an option to buy later. What is going on at the club? Where has all the money gone that we can't buy anybody in the transfer window?

My thoughts are as such:

We are 11th in the table and are 6 points clear of relegation. If you were offered that at the start of the season I think most would have taken it.

We clearly have financial restrictions and have a limited budget for squad investment. Why that is I don't know but that cannot be blamed on Roy.

We have had a crippling injury list for the last 2 months and we have been limping through that period and our form has deteriorated as a result.

Sheffield utd did to us what we have done to many others on the road. Sat back in the first half and showed a bit more ambition in the second half and knicked it. They are having a decent season and are no mugs.

Our form is a concern, but hopefully we can still be in this division next season. We will then have a summer transfer window to overhaul the squad (probably on the back of Zaha leaving). If we don't then I think we all know next season will be a battle to stay up once again.

We're doing alright this season and should have enough about us to avoid getting dragged into a relegation scrap. The current structure is not sustainable though.

We've too many big earners on the books. I think we should try to offload Zaha (hopefully get £45m for him), Sakho and Benteke. Sakho and Big Ben simply don't justify their high salaries. Benteke has had enough chances and Sakho is behind Tompkins and Cahill and is too injury prone/much of a time bomb. Kelly and Dann and good back up.

The sale of these three will free up a lot of money for us to sign 4/5 younger players. Easier said than done of course.

The younger players like Meyer and Reidewald are the future so they need more game time to improve.

Couldn't agree more, and add that we don't even have a full 25 man squad - clearly a gap in thinking at the top.

I agree with some of your points but would question playing younger players please tell me when Roy has played a younger player from choice and not because he got no one else to play. Like everything in this world we have a sale by date sorry to say this Roy has got to that day.

It always makes me laugh on the radio during the week ahead of the fixtures "X are away to Palace, Selhurst is always a tough place to go" - it is honestly the easiest ffs.

I honestly dread homes games, as we are just fairly useless and lack any plan B. We all know Meyer for McArthur is happening after 65 mins these days and that's about it.

We can pick the team for next week now, as Roy has no imagination or trust in other players.

Saturday was always the biggest away banker of the weekend on anyone's accumulator.

9 wins in 32 at home...

Just feels like we are sleepwalking towards relegation either this season or next.

I feel for Roy at times, but he also lacks the ability to recognise when changes are needed. Perhaps we could give the Townsend and Zaha front two another whirl to freshen it up, giving us Ayew and Benteke off the bench, just anything would do that is different !

We also can't play Ayew and Benteke if we only have two stikers, as we have nothing off the bench to change it.

If we miss the one or two chances we create per game, then we lose as other teams take theirs. It is turning out to be as simple as that.

I just wish we were proactive rather than reactive.

For season ticket holders that working out at about £100 a win and £30 a goal. Must be the worst value for money in the league

Now that’s a stat worth twittering to SP. Not sure he ever reads these boards but we have to get the message to him somehow.

One point and one that was sadly dropped by a very competent keeper, all the moaners on here are making themselves appear very ridiculous, seriously you are.

Playing against the best teams in the land comes at a cost, the club is attempting to sort the problem out and if Tosun was available I'm quite sure he would've caused more problems with the balls into the box that we had ..he appears to be able to place himself into the correct positions something we haven't been good at for way too long.

Sounds personal that. A loss is a loss is a loss, you can’t disguise it as anything else and yet again we don’t score at home and as for digging me for pointing out we are 14th when we are actually 14th, that is frankly ridiculous. If we finished 18th by 1 point then that is enough to be relegated so I really don’t understand what you are trying to say.
