It has gone to far and I cannot see a solution. The French have never been cooperative despite agreeing to solve the migrant camp problem when we took hundreds when Sangatte was shut down. An “amnesty “ will not be a deterrent it will encourage more to come.

Australia used to have the right idea, b turning boats back, and any that got through, were held on an island prison, prior to deporting. Trouble is, it's all gone a bit legal and Human Rights, and them pesky boat people arrive without paperwork or any means of ID'ing their origin. Hence, we can't send them back. Finding common ground with the French would obviously help and you will know why I think shooting ourselves in both feet in 2016 has made that much harder. In many ways we only have ourselves to blame for the lack of cooperation. If it’s all done “on paper” does that mean background checks and identity verification are still done? Presumably our security forces maintain lists of people of interest and will have ways of flagging them in the system. For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

Sorry Wissie but the lack of cooperation from the French pre-dates Brexit. So that can’t be used as an excuse. Obviously checks are done but only on the details given by the undocumented applicants. If you had something to hide and arrived with no documentation would you give the correct details? Everyone will be fingerprinted so previous removals will be identified
