Firstly I said that he posed the question and not that he thought anything was unfair to him Secondly your comment that the BBC should be funded by everyone whether they used it nor not as the service was there for all to use could equally be applied to prostitution as they are also there for everyone to use too whether you wish to partake of their offerings or not

Whether you choose to use the BBC, or not, it is still there and providing a service to the whole and promoting our image and values to the world. That has to be paid for in some way. If we are to avoid governments, of whatever colour, exercising direct influence then the BBC cannot be funded via taxation. If we allow it to raise all of it's funding commercially then we put it at the mercy of commercial pressures. I know many with strong political views, both on the right as can be found here but also on the left as can be found elsewhere, believe that the BBC has a political agenda hostile to them. I would rather the BBC found it's own balance within the rules established by it's charter. The key to that is ensuring that a strong management and oversight team is in place. The questions over the very high salaries being paid to some presenters and whether they can be justified is a separate debate. On balance I thing a licence fee system remains the most sensible answer to achieve what the BBC represents. It will never be popular but the alternatives seem worse. The danger is that in this age of populism the government will again deliver what the people want and not what they need. We need politicians who are brave enough to say no to change when it isn't wise and strong enough to defend such decisions to the people. "promoting our image and values to the world" It's promoting your values, the ones that are already gettng people killed and offers nothing positive to say about the indigenous people of this country or it's history. Quite the opposite.

It seems that his Muslim name and African heritage didn't stop him from getting on in life. I listened to him being interviewed on Radio 5 yesterday

For those who are interested this is the government consultation. I decided to restrict my comments to the specific subject of decriminalising the licence fee rather than a general whinge on scrapping it. Essentially my response was this: 1. It is a regressive tax that unfairly targets the poor and women. The government made it clear this is not about scrapping the licence and to that point I held true until they asked what is the best way of avoiding non payment if it was decriminalised. I couldn't resist saying "scrap the licence, problem solved".

The BBC takes a more inclusive approach and promotes the whole and not just the piece you approve of.

BBC Response to the licence review "The BBC is the most-used media organisation in the UK. It reaches the most people. It’s used for the most time. You wouldn’t think that from some of the things being said today.” That's right the BBC is so beloved by the public it has to force them with threats of gaol time if they don't pay their compulsory tax.

"you are describing YOUR own values which are those of a minority" "The BBC takes a more inclusive approach" By not including the views of what you describe as "a significant minority"? Please explain how that works.
