The same best team that lost 2-0 to the wolves, and was beaten by Norwich? Wait, was also beaten by us last season

They battered both of those teams, particularly Wolves.

Ah we were beaten by the much better side and it could have been 6 or 7 , but in the same breath if Benteke’s header goes in with 15 to go then we would have been chasing a point. Football is a funny all game.

We lost and we all expected to lose but the big plus is that we were not completely battered so no long lasting damage done.

This was my take as well. City were wasteful but won the game through hitting us on the break when we tried to respond to their first goal.

We at least made a fist of trying to get back into the game without getting torn apart.

Also agree that Schlupp isn’t doing enough to earn his place in the team at the moment.

When I saw the City line up with two midfielders at centre half and a back four that had not played together before there was a part of me that wanted to take the game to City and pump high balls into the box and use the aerial advantage of having Cahill, Tomkins, Benteke and Kouyate at our disposal.
It’s no coincidence that our closest opportunity was the Benteke header from a corner.
However, I have to accept that is not the Hodgson way.
It will be interesting to see what he does at Arsenal, however.
Benteke and Zaha did very well against Arsenal last season and it must be tempting to try it again.
It would mean dropping Ayew though and he’s integral to Hodgson’s defending from the front approach.

1) its called conserving energy, explosive players need to do that
2) nothing in front of him so whats the point in getting to the byline with potentially only ayew in the box
3) over the last 18 months he has done this
4) see point 2
5) no attacker does, he still does it tho as its part of his job
6) roys choice
7) agreed, thats my only criticism of him.
he has more dribbles than any player in the PL this season, hardly strikes me as a player who doesnt show for the ball.

is wilf a world class player, probably not...is he the best player outside the top 6...yes.

and he plays for our club, we should embrace this not just picking everything apart after a 2 zip loss against the champions.

1. what a load of tosh yes at times walking around is fine but not when your team has the ball or loses the ball look at when he was beaten to it by an old player at the back he took ages to get back yet look at the likes of Silver the guy again is old player he is trying to move around get involved all the time.

2. again load of rubbish plenty of times other players around and other thing if players know you are not going to deliver then why even bother to put effort in to get their this appears to be the case with Palace.

3. remove the rose tinted glasses he still does the tricks even in own half remember the Wolves game he tried the tricks lost the ball they went and scored o was that over 18 months ago no.

4. no point saying anyway here already said my piece.

5. false again you really dont have a clue about this sport do you modern football requires it may not like it but you get paid to do a job do it with proper amount of effort.

6. is it? or was it apart of him throwing toys out the pram that he would play more of that role.

7.

8. dribble stats are meaningless as already said about doing tricks all the time well this counts and whats point dribbling if you go nowhere with it his assists stats are poor so is his goals which are more important.

best player outside top 6 you are having a laugh.

He didn't have a good game nothing more nothing less. First touch was poor and wasteful in possession on a few occasions. He wasn't the first and won't be the last good player to have a bad game against such quality opposition.

I've no doubt he'll have better games this season and some where he'll almost single handedly win us some points. So I can forgive him for having an off day against the champions.

As for being best player outside of the top 6. The top 6 is a little unusual at present but if you take the traditional top 6 teams then Zaha would definitely be amongst a group of attacking players who are good enough to play for a top team. Whether they can match his value is another question but you wouldn't get many teams in the league who'd turn down his services.

I'm not so sure. If any of the "big six" had really rated him that highly one if them would have made much more of an effort to sign him than appeared to be the case.

You say "whether they can match his value" - well there are two sides to that - the value we place on him, and the value potential buyers place on him, and, I fear at the moment, the latter is increasingly less than the former.

Yes that was kind of my point.

Is he good enough to play for them? Yes
Would they have him in their team/squad? Yes
Will they pay 'our' value? Maybe not but in my eyes that doesn't mean he's not good enough to play for them.

Is he any better than Mahrez ?

Yes they did batter them and against us they also had some fabulous moments of miss-passing and panicking which we unlike Norwich and Wolves could not capitalise on but their ball playing and off ball movement was outstanding as in those two games against Wolves and Norwich all three games could easily have ended with them scoring four to five quite easily.

He doesn't show the finesse that Mahrez can display but then Mahrez doesn't have some of Wilf's qualities. I'd put them in the same group of players tbh. Their skillsets would obviously be better suited to certain teams however both would happily be welcomed into any team in the league.
