We haven't had a real quick playing regularly for ages. One paced nation paying for loads of trundlers in county cricket. My dad, who I watched a lot of cricket with, thought Frank Tyson was the quickest he'd seen, but that was back foot days and so difficult to compare.

If Stokes is convicted of ABH in the court, then I suspect the ECB will strip him of the vice-captaincy and he won't be on the tour to Australia. This will really diminish our chances and the Aussies will be filled with glee. If you have the honour of playing for your country have the decency of displaying a basic level of behvaiour. Hopefully he'll be given another chance, but at the same time, let's hope it's the last he'll need to be given.

I think your Dad was right as I heard Richie Benaud say that too, and he played against him. 'Typhoon Tyson' will look him up seems to have been amazing but short career.

There is some footage of Tyson on youtube and the tour of 54/55 in Australia which he dominated after the first test by shortening his run-up. I would be terrified quite frankly and the advice of one G.Boycott to 'get up the other end' would be the only thing to ensure survival !!!!!!

All of our top bowlers could actually bowl much quicker but they would lose their accuracy and be badly punished as a result. Looking at the wider picture, from experience and what I hear from relatives in Australia, interest in cricket 'Down under' is not as high as we in this country believe. The 'Mood music' is of cricket being the main game in those parts but actually in the main, Rugby League, Rugby Union and in certain parts Aussie Rules are far more popular and given greater coverage in the media.

I've become a bit obsessed with the pace of emerging quicks....hoping that the 'answer' is yet to come through.....being so bored with 82-87 mph. I know that emerging youngsters like Fisher of Yorkshire and Beard of Essex have real potential....but I don't know how fast they are. Edited by Stirlingsays (30 Sep 2017 9.56am)

You don't see bowling actions like his around much today. He looked very quick.

I don't know, but maybe they had more time to refine their art.
