I have just returned from Portslade now there's a place you don't want to return to in a hurry.

Good shout, that's definitely worse than Fritzl's basement.

Northallerton.

Bad points too many to mention. It has one redeeming feature: a road going south.

I lived there for four years, Kerms: it was four years too many.

Seattle.
Just arrived from Vancouver and the two cities are miles apart in culture, architecture, cleanliness and attractiveness.
Who in the right mind would put a railway line and the equivalent of a motorway between the town/the tourist area (Pike's Place) and the seafront ?

Vancouver has cycle lanes, walkways, parks, restaurants, bars....

Edited for experience...
Seattle front is being remodernised to remove the motorway and railway to a purpose built tunnel. However this will take at least 5 years. There is still a large amount of building work going on with roads and pavements blocked.
Give it 10 years before visiting.
