I'll agree with you on the liberalism agenda being everywhere. However, Liberalism (let's call it Neo-Liberalism these days) is the agenda of corporate consumerism and "rights for all" as long as those rights contribute to big business profits.

The day we start seeing the media call for Nationalisations and increased taxation of wealth is when we'll see a left wing bias.

There is a lot of truth in that me thinks.

I'm not sure he is alone in that but we shouldn't underestimate the stupidity of the electorate in believing the integrity of politicians.

In one sense, we have fought for the right to be stupid and we are taking full advantage of it.

Idiocracy is alive and well but I do not believe that idiocy rests solely with supporters of Donald Trump.

I think you're on the money there. Its just screamingly obvious with Trump. I think the same criticism can be levelled at anyone who's wedded to a ideological view point, irrespective of critical appraisal.

Whilst I am a socialist, I wouldn't ascribe my views of socialism as in line with party views.

Surely no one could accuse you of that.

Why that would be tantamount to calling me sarcastic.

So ethics are generally brought about by a consensus of moral and practical guidelines.

With liberalism etc, I just think that the language we use is just not nuanced enough to separate out the subtle differences between individual opinion. Clearly, people don't all think the same way but often align themselves to others who have similar views. They are often happy to be labeled in a particular way because of a tribal inclination.
I sometimes think that intellectualism and it's us to develop a philosophy actually obstructs meaningful progress in may situations.
Here we are debating the meaning of political social terminology while we could be solving a problem by just cutting through the detail and acting on instinct. I'm sure many real world decision makers do not have the luxury of a protracted internal conflict where they draw on complex philosophical arguments.
I think perhaps such considerations are often only reserved for dreamers, idealists and people on football websites
.

This is where football websites come in, as you can work out complex philosophical arguments, prior to actually being put into a position where you make a decision.

Generally I think the issue is probably more a case that very few people actually study philosophy to any level, and as such have little regard for people who do (as they annoy them).

There is nowt wrong with philosophy or developing your own but I believe that it is a mistake to believe that you can apply it rigidly to all situations. There must be flexibility built it.

Having watched CNN for the last few days whilst in the US it's not just the BBC putting the boot in...

It seems that even his own party are breaking from him. Alienating life long Republican career politicians, is quite an impressive feat.

Still going to win though.....His apolitically correct sometimes silly comments get massively focused upon and demonised by the lefty press and his republican enemies.....But here's the reality: once those TV debates come on Trump will take over in the polls....Clinton just doesn't have that x factor like her husband does.

You read it here....many on the left are in denial but it's about effective personal advertising and Trump has it and Clinton doesn't have it enough to extend out beyond the base.

When Sanders lost, that's when the Democrats lost the election.

What are his chances of living long if he becomes President.

Lots of people were saying that about Obama.

Democracy must prevail. Although based on previous US elections there might be some doubt about the validity of the result.

I think at the age of 70, he's already in a area where the stress and demands of being President and CoC are more of a threat to his health than assassination.

That's a very heavy load to carry.

I don't think he'll win it. He even seems to be alienating the Republican party now and dividing them. Realistically, I think the Democrats will pick up most of the swing votes providing Saunders supporters don't protest vote, and the democratic nominee can avoid any catastrophic scandals.

I agree with this statement. Some of it may come down to media timing. Early August is not weeks away from the actual election.
Trump needs to try and turn around Republicans (including those politicians within the party) who he has offended. His recent comments about the Muslim US Army officer killed by a roadside bomb have damaged him. If he stands any chance, Trump will be hoping that Clinton makes a major gaff somewhere in the leadup.

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.
