Who cares about a faraway War when its not safe to walk through Croydon on a Saturday night ? The Migrant Crisis is only minutes from your doorstep. Edited by PalazioVecchio (06 Dec 2022 7.12pm) Comparing our situation with the Fall of Rome! I've heard everything now. We have a current problem with illegal immigration but come on. Most of the rest is to fill skill shortages. People who want to work and who are almost all very proud to be here. There is a lot of negativity and despair in these pages from people who welcomed Brexit as the dawn of a new golden age. People like me thought Brexit was a stupid mistake that would create unnecessary strains and divisions on us. So it has proved but at least I remain optimistic we can overcome the many problems we, and the world, face. Nothing good ever comes from being negative and spending your time moaning and groaning. You are not going to change what is, so best come to terms with it and then work hard to make the best of it.

This is a comparison made on numerous occasions on here and elsewhere and a perfectly legitimate one, if you know anything about history. You seem to know very little. And moaning usually results when outcomes that were entirely predictable come to pass because of the stupidity of people like you.

These have become so intertwined that allocating the proportionate contributions looks pretty nigh impossible. The Brexiteers can blame everything we are seeing on the pandemic and the war, point at the EU suffering too and suggest a Brexit bounce has just been postponed. Others look at the lack of trade deals, the complicated bureaucracy, increasing costs of, and decline in, our EU exports and say the impact is clearly negative and unlikely to get better. We are where we are. We can though make it better. The most obvious way being to renegotiate the trading arrangements with the EU and to stop being ideological and start being pragmatic. If "having control ourselves" simply means we are pointing our ship at an iceberg wouldn't it be better to let a pilot on board who knows how to navigate the tricky waters, surrounded by other ships ready to assist if we get into difficulties.

The situations are completely different. The Roman empire collapsed for a variety of reasons. Some involved external threats. Some the way they treated migrants they had invited in because of the external threats, this causing stresses inside and out. There were economic problems too. We can, and will, overcome the current problems. There is no need for pessimism during tough times. British fortitude and determination is what's needed. Not hand wrenching.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Surely CCTV will reveal which flight they arrived on, so the simple answer ought to be to hand them back to the airline that accepted them for a return to the country of their departure. If they destroyed their passport on arrival, tough. They can be jailed in that country for attempting to travel without documentation and told that they need to contact their Embassy when their memory returns.

Probably a lot that are due to be kicked out of the UK. Some others that are obviously trying to get to the UK through our back door too. Edited by ASCPFC (07 Dec 2022 1.02pm)
