Of course they do. Hotels employ staff and buy supplies. My rental properties are full with settled tenants. All provided by the local council and not high street agents. If they wanted to place a migrant family in one then it would be subject to my approval and their contract, which includes undertakings on rent and repairs. I would have no overriding problem. So, local council or UK government supplied tenants equals guaranteed income; private tenants doesn't. No worries for you then. I'm just waiting for the day when pressure is applied to you for not wanting to take in a particular tenant.
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

Blimey you have not been paying attention. There are countless stories of the government hiring hotels for refugees and the hotel management sacking most of the staff. As there are not providing a hotel level service they only need a few to do the cleaning. So not great for the staff and not great for the local economy. In the meantime if you are a tourist the amount of accommodation was significantly reduced which meant that those hotels that were still available jacked up their prices. Even the dumb Tories recognised this was a bad deal for the local economy and so stopped doing it.

Your probably familiar with this story, in my family home village in Leitrim where I have large extended family. The population is about 700. Its not an issue of helping people, its the scale of an overnight increase of 25% in a place in the middle of nowhere with not a lot to do in the first place.

Labour have decided they won't smash the gangs anymore. They are just going to disperse illegals around the country and smash the social housing market instead. I hope people look forward to a person of unknown origin, who is a potential terrorist or involved in organised crime, living next door. Do we really have to have 5 years of bonkers government?

There are lots of protests upcoming I hear. Due to current events they are unlikely to be peaceful. They will just fuel the division even more. That will only ever suit our lovely government and people who love a tear up.

Rumours of planned protest / riots in Croydon later today? Stay at home. That would be my advice. As much as I support the sentiment against mass immigration and wonder what is left for the public to do other than go out on the streets, I don't want to see people getting killed and property destroyed in mindless violence.

Croydon council update since yesterday: "We are aware of rumours circulating online about reports of attacks in Croydon tomorrow (Wednesday 7 August). We want to confirm that our position remains the same - that at this time there is no police intelligence that we will see violent activity in Croydon."

Violent activity in Croydon; would anyone notice any difference from the norm?

Look at the deliberate inflammatory wording, "reports of attacks"

I like to return to the issue of these “global elites” and their agenda which somehow manages to direct world affairs. That there are super rich people who look after their own interests is undeniable. They exist, and have always existed. If you want to brand them as the “elite” that’s your choice, but I don’t think it’s accurate. They aren’t one class. What is denied is there is some kind of agenda that they share. The original comment referred to “their agenda” and this is either stated, or implied, in all the sneering from the right, as they attack the “elites”, the WEF and globalism. There is no agenda or even shared aspirations. People like Putin, Russian oligarchs, George Soros, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Rupert Murdoch and the Rothchilds would all be regarded as “elites” but each has their own, sometimes tangentially different, agenda. 'You don't need a formal conspiracy where interests converge'. (George Carlin) Let's not forget that you yourself have pushed conspiracy theories on the forum for years but whatever....seems that when it suits... Your contention that powerful people who align on matters don't work together to produce outcomes in their mutual self interest is so ridiculous as to be either stupid or overtly dishonest.....and I don't think you're stupid. It is in fact so common that we have laws against it in many fields....people don't produce laws for stuff that doesn't happen. More Carlin on this matter. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Aug 2024 2.10pm)
