PV achieved that last season when the chemistry appeared to have been there. We will never know, but there was a strong suggestion that the chemistry was no longer there this season, and that he may not have matched last year's results. The inevitable fate of all those that fall foul of the Nolans.

I don’t think PV is a terrible manager but he had appeared to have lost the changing room towards the end. The fact Eze wasn’t playing is quite laughable when we think about it now with the benefit of hindsight. PV had an excellent first season and was very quickly able to gel a team of strangers into one playing decent, attractive football. He deserves credit for that. Something had to change with our dire run of form. It’s quite easy to say PV would have got results against the lesser teams, but I’m not sure. Had we lost the first two matches against Leicester and Leeds they would have leapfrogged us and we’d have been bang in trouble. The new manager bounce was timed to perfection. I’ve always liked Roy and those who previously criticised his ‘Royball’ tactics seem to forget he had the oldest squad in the league with a chronic lack of firepower. He did extremely well with limited resources to not just an avoid relegation, but comfortably so. He was never given the war chest Vieira had. Well done Parish for getting the big calls right as usual and well done Roy for doing a cracking job. My gut tells me that Roy will be here next season.

For those who still think PV should not have been sacked. Eze gave an interview praising Roy and said something like he allows me freedom to play.

Ayew has turned out to be the vital cog as the understanding between him, Eze, and Olise are concerned. Funny how what may appear to be a bit strange to start with ends up working well.

There's really no need to debate this, PV shows a severe lack of experience and he had a pass because of his playing days... An experienced manager comes in, look how the whole team react and look how specific players get utilized and hit the ground running... PV couldn't do that...

Vieira had the same tools as Roy, but he did not have any clue how to use them.

I think Vieira's downfall was nothing more and nothing less than he was pretty clueless as a manager. He came in and had six month's of success, largely because his reputation preceded him and the players bent over backwards to respond to him. Who wouldn't be in awe of playing for a World Cup Winner and giant of the game? But once the players realised that he was "hollow", that his coaching team was poor, and he wasn't bettering them in any way, they simply switched off. It wasn't just this season that was bad; an awful lot of the second half of last season was pretty poor too. Vieira was found out by everyone; the fans, the players, and the board alike. But again, because of that enormous reputation, he got far more time than he should have. I've little doubt that had he stayed, we'd be deep in the mire right now regardless of the easier fixture list since he left. Anyone who thinks Eze would be scoring goals for fun under Vieira simply hasn't been paying attention.

This aligns perfectly to my baking analogy: one may have the ingredients but does one know how to put them together in the correct proportions and bake at the correct temperature for the correct amount of time? In football terms it's trying to put square pegs in round holes and using the wrong tactical formation for the players at hand. PV was guilty of this, the most egregious example being the belief that Jeff Schlupp could perform as a central holding midfielder in a 3 man midfield, and then sticking with it when it clearly wasn't working.
