He could have used this system last season.

After beating United last year, he stuck with 3 defensive midfielders up to the second to last game of the season.

Roy’s got it right so far this season. Both Southampton and United have played one friendly, pushed too high, conceded early, and were very poor.

That shouldn’t detract from getting the tactics right so far this season.

The complaint wasn’t really aimed at how we performed against big sides. It’s more about how we played against villa, Burnley etc.

Have a look at the players we had available against Burnley and tell me what team you would have picked ?

It's not the team it's the tactics......

By ditching one defensive midfielder, we can now play someone who faces forward. Also Benteke's injury has given Roy the option to refashion the forward line and it cannot be coincidence that we look so much more dangerous and incisive in our attacking play.
It is a tactical switch that has improved us no end, and credit to Roy for making it so.

These teams are not bad teams, they set up to stop us playing and the result is always not very pretty, higher up the league teams have the luxury of not having to rely on stopping us doing what we did to Man.U yesterday, it was the perfect example of how not to play against us if your squad of players are as gifted as theirs.

It also shows to me that although we have in the past had some dire entertainment we have more importantly been solid in our placing in this league, the job that Mr Hodgaon is achieving takes players and time ..he is building the foundations.

In that Burnley 0-1 game we had about three very very good goalscoring opportunities and their goal was actually a mistake from our very competent keeper. losing a game with missed chances and mistakes is always extremely depressing and frustrating, if Guaita had saved Mee's header as he should've and Ayew had scored one that looked easier to do so everyone's reflection of this game would've been very different wouldn't it.

I agree that the negativity is misplaced.

I also agree that we seem to have one tactic. Cede possession score early and then hurt on the break. It all falls apart if they score early or otherwise sit deep and invite us to break them down.

Do we now have the players to unlock such teams?

The plus is, not many teams in this division who will do that.

It fell apart for Moan.U didn't it and they failed to break us down, their goal was lucky too with a rebound, most of football is actually boring and they had no other tactic to get at us, people are worrying and thinking too much about this and that when in actual fact it all comes down to individual mistakes or inspiration.

I am struggling to see why Parish has not read him the riot act and kicked him out after yesterday's farce.

His professed skill is to build a watertight defence and what happens some blood no one has ever heard of and newly signed gets a goal. Now for me there is only one Donny and he sang duets with his sister Marie.

So enough is enough. We will never get anywhere letting people who are making their debut score like that.

I see some on here say we scored three at Old Trafford including a penalty, but I just don't buy that. Fergus was there and no one gets a penalty at Old Trafford when he is in attendance.

This "talk" will be interesting after ten matches into the season, to see what the next 8 matches brings for us, when teams we play like UTd have more games under their belt, its going to be very interesting. We have a big test against Everton...

You can't wait for us to lose. Crikey you have an issue with Roy. Do you know how much money Everton have spent over the last seven or eight seasons compared to us? If they beat us it won't be down to tactics. Get a grip.
