A great and deserved win with what was probably an entirely reserve back 4. Really pleased with Mitchell, who was quick to close down wingers when they sprayed it out wide, and always got a toe in there, or found some way to disrupt. Zaha was a menace, Townsend looked lively first half but then faded. I felt sad for Schlupp to make way. The game was similar to many last year but in the end it seemed fair that we won. Eze looks wonderful. Not perfect by any stretch, but like he has a lot to bring. I like the thought of him progressing with us, because he looks like he could become special.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

An excellent result with all our injuries the players were totally focused and stuck to Roy’s plans. Experience from our manager and players gave us the three points today COYP

Can’t say I was filled with confidence when I saw the line-up but absolutely delighted to get off to a winning start. For all of the mixed views about the performance it's a great start. If we can get a few good results early days it'll bode well going forward.

But there are others on here that would have you believe that WH would have rose like a salmon, grabbed it, rolled over then smashed it down the other end then with precision accuracy for Wilf to slot in the second..!! LOL..!! COYP

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Roy got it right today. Southampton got it wrong. Good to see Zaha playing well. Shows hes virtual to our success. Impressive performances by Townsend and Schlupp too. Kayoute is a better defender than midfielder. Guita saved the day.

Better passing from midfield required. We could have scored 3 or 4 on the break with Southampton’s high press. As much as Southampton presses hard and look good going forward, if they defend like that against other PL teams they will ship a lot of goals. Zaha should've easily taken his chance at the end making that Ings opportunity just after pointless I'd like to see the offside goal because they didn't properly show it, it felt we were just strolling around a bit and playing with them because our defending seemed to be back where it was after the Bournemouth 0-2, Guita was his usual brilliant again which settled everyone down always in the right place at the right time, Southampton did attack with menace and perhaps should've scored one but we looked well able to step up if needed, Ayew appeared too laid back for my liking today if he could've been bothered to move forward for Schlupps cross he could've easily had a shot on target, McCarthy and McArthur very solid. Southampton will go down. Edited by Tickled pink (12 Sep 2020 6.20pm)

Roy did a fantastic job with his game plan today which was not made easy by all the injuries we have. This win 1-0 may not have been pretty at times but the three points are a massive boost and gives us a lift after the poor finish last term.Well done to Roy and the Team.

Jeffrey Schlupp completed just one (1) pass in his 81 minutes on pitch for Crystal Palace, the fewest by any midfielder to have played 60+ minutes in a PL game across the last four seasons. I do not believe that stat, in 1st half there were several exchange of passes going on down the left
