Success breads complacency.

Freedman has been clearing out the deadwood and getting in decent players. Roy seems to have avoided the transfer market as he knows it's something that could get him sacked.

Since he's been hear we've got rid of Jordan Mutch, Lee Chung-Young, Sako, Souare, Williams, Puncheon, Cabaye and AWB.

Cabaye and Puncheon were quality but ageing. We've done nothing to replace them, what makes you think he's going to do a decent job replacing anyone else. The rest were deadwood.

Sure we got £45m for AWB, but hodgson got two seasons out of him. We've also aquired Guatia, Sakho, Cahill, Kouyate, McCarthy, Sorloth, Ayew, Mayer and Banks. Plus Reidewald was signed for £10m by FDB.

BFS and Pardew emptied the coffers the season before he joined, but Thompkins, Luka, PVA, and Schlupp (plus Benteke) are all expensive improvements on what went befor them

On the whole, he's probably got a better squad now than any other manager since we've been in the premier league. Having Batshuari or RLC would be nice, it was a shame about Tosun's injury.

I can’t agree with this.

We have 1 actual striker at the club and when he is not injured he can’t score.

We have 1 right back.
1 left back, stretching to 2 with Schlupp.

Townsend is on a serious decline.
Schlupp has missed most of this season.
Sakho has missed most of this season.
Meyer has been shown to not be good enough.

We had parts of this season where we struggled to get a full team on the pitch. Yes, Roy has his faults but we have massive problems with this squad.

With all that has gone on this season with injuries and lack of cover in certain positions, there is no other manager that would have kept us up. The reason we are staying in the division this year and the last couple is Roy’s tactics. They may be boring but they will keep us safe.

Where’s the evidence no other manager could have kept us up?
Pulis had a far inferior squad and managed it.
Pardew and Allardyce have kept us up too.
I just don’t get the Hodgson worship.
Looking at our current squad we have
- Guiata who some see as one of our best ever keepers
- a choice of experienced centre backs the envy of most of the teams in the division( Cahill, Dann, Tomkins, Sakho, Kelly)
- PVA who Hodgson says is one of the best left backs in the division
- seasoned Premier international midfield players lauded for their consistency ( Luka, Mcarthur,Schlupp, Kouyate, Mccarthy
- supposedly our greatest ever player in Zaha
- Benteke, Ayew and Townsend who are again experienced Premier players who are internationals.
That core does not seem a relegation squad to me.
Yes, there are gaps in there and there have been problems with loss of form.
But in my view this is partly attributable to Hodgson and he seems to have conned people into a mindset that we have an awful squad and he is performing miracles keeping us up.

100% agree, time to go I think, or at the very least look to find a suitable replacement. As soon as we went one nil down I thought thats it, we've lost this. So so predictable!!!

Very unbalanced though in terms of defense and attack. Where are the attacking options that we are willing to play ?

What were your feelings when we were playing open and attacking football under Pardew and losing 3-2 or 4-3 most weeks?

Would you take that over steady Roy?

Personally I don't think Roy is the problem (if you can call it a problem, we've comfortably survived again), we just seriously lack creativity. I'm surprised Townsend isn't playing more and I think I've finally come to terms with Meyer not being good enough.

100% yes - don’t get me wrong, when we chopped Pardew I think it was probably time, but most of his tenure was good and considerably more entertaining. And to say we were losing ‘most weeks’ is just hyperbole; the points accumulated and positions we finished under Pardew were much the same as we achieve now - the idea that Hodgson is solely responsible for us staying up, or that no one else could possibly achieve it any other way is just nonsense. It’s a choice to approach games this conservatively.

His CV is respected but, these were many years ago. I'm all for consistency but he's beyond his best years. Done well on a budget with injuries but, given these issues you'd expect any manager with sense to raid the academy & allow them a chance but he flatly refuses to. In a window with few signings most of us raved about Camarasa only for him to be left out in the rain to rot & then we have Sorloth, so poor he's farmed out to Turkey where he's banging in goals for fun & his price soars. Might not have had much money to spend but he could at least make full use of everything we have.

If we end up with our best ever PL points haul would you change your opinion?

We've not really had a decent attacking option since we've been in the Premiership. Benteke is the only striker who managed to get over 10 goals in a season.

Murray was possibily our best option but was injured and ageing. Gayle was ok, otherwise we've been relying on the likes of Chamakh and Campbell, or Wickham (always injured).

Under Pardew we had to play with Kelly at left back for 6 months after Soaure's crash.

Watch last night's Bournemouth vs Newcastle. You can see how bad Bournemouth were hence, when they played us on Saturday last week it just made us/Roy looked good.

No. No way.

He has worked miracles with the squad he has, and the lack of support in the transfer market.

I'm not saying every game is a joy to watch, but we're Crystal Palace! Why would we expect that?

We're closer to Europe than relegation at the moment, what more should we (realistically) hope for?
