I believe it was 1986 when I went to see our team play Sheff Utd up at Bramall Lane. The fog started to descend on our way to the ground and I thought that there was a chance it would be postponed. My friend and I were behind the goal with the Palace supporters and for a time we just could not see the goal at the other end which was where Sheff Utd were attacking. All we could hear was many "Oohs" and "Aahs" presumably as the home side came close to scoring. The match ended 0-0.

I went to that game, that’s my exact memory as well, we could hear a game going on, but not see it, these days it would’ve been called off. I recall back in the 70s seeing our team play at Port Vale, a ground I hadn't visited before. All a distant memory but I have a feeling that we had goalkeeper Tony Burns stretchered off but I really cannot recall who replaced him in goal.I have an inkling that we lost 2-1 with Peter Taylor scoring our goal but once again my memory could be playing tricks with me.

Cheers - I’ll definitely be watching this! Quite simply the most amazing Palace match ever. The context of having lost 9-0 and 2-0 to Liverpool that season and the fact their team was just so good, made this result so incredible. We didn’t lay a glove on them in the first half and the pundits were struggling to make the 2nd half sound like a contest in their half time chat. Then Pembo picked up the ball on the wing.......

I think I read that Coppell told Pemberton at half time to play it tight and not venture over the half way line of course as soon as he got the ball he bombed forward. I often wonder how much attention players pay to the manager once a game starts.

Pembo was a bit like that anyway, better going forward than he was a defender, probably why Sir Steve replaced him with John Humphrey

We just weren’t up for the fight, we didn’t turn up, a game too far as they say, which was such a shame, because we had more than double the fans at the replay than we did in the first game. The atmosphere at the replay was the only memorable thing for us. Edited by monkey (18 Apr 2020 7.16pm)
