If Wilf is fit will PV bring him back into the team, or will he start with the same team that started against Arsenal? If he does bring Wilf back in, then who does he replace? Quite a tricky decision I think, as both Tekkers and Edouard had good games the other night and so did Ayew. What do people think?

If Wilf is fully fit he will be back in for Ayew is my guess. The rest of the team will be the same.

Like to see Olise get a run against them as I think he could have a field day.

Some possibility perhaps that PV will persist with Benteke centrally and Edouard wider.

He was clear in the Palace TV interview post game that Edouard can play across the front 3 and that must include wide right.

i guess it depends on whether Edouard and Benteke was forced upon PV due to Wilf injury, or whether he sees it as a viable formation.

It may depend on the strengths and weaknesses of the Newcastle team.

I'd like to think that Olise and Wilf represent better options that Ayew.

Was Benteke's role against Arsenal a one-off or does it earn him a start?

Before the Arsenal game, I'd have liked to see Wilf, Edouard and Olise starting in attack. I'd still like to see that.

Totally agree, but PV normally gives the team another game if they played well. I cant see him dropping Benteke and Ayew to bring in Zaha and Olise. I think maybe Zaha for Ayew is the only likely change. Also, Luka may get dropped as he had a bad match. Like to see Hughes get a chance but likely to pick Kouyate.

If Zaha is fit, I cant see anything but dropping Benteke.

He took his goal well but lets be honest he still contributed very little.

Would love the confidence of putting Olise in from the off, but wouldn't be surprised if Ayew- gets the nod.

If Wilf is match fit he will play - period. I reckon he will come in for Benteke and we'll have the front 3 of Zaha, Edouard and Ayew (I think he'll stick with Ayew because of his protective defensive work, especially with St. Max on that wing). I expect Olise to come on for Ayew at some point.

As to other changes, I don't think there'll be any unless there are last minute injuries. I think PV's focus is to improve the team's cohesion and familiarity with the system and that is best served by sticking with the same players as much as possible. Yes Luka had a poor game against Arsenal but he was ok in previous games, but I agree he's most at risk of being replaced. Having said that I'd like to see Hughes given a game. I think his best chance of getting on the field is as a substitute if we find ourselves cruising several goals ahead.

Dont worry about cover for St Max, they are there for the taking

Guaita

Ward Anderson Guehi Mitchell

Olise McArthur Gallagher

Eduoard Benteke Wilf

Yes, Benteke, he must have gained a bit of confidence from the Arsenal Game, I thing i never thought i would say, Newcastle are Crap, so basically 4-2-4 in possession, 2 nil up in 20mins game over

I know Bentenke scored, but he still does not work as hard as any of our other players and seems reluctant to close people down. Under our new system it seems all about aggressive pressing and forcing mistakes and for that reason I would stick Edouard back in the middle, Wilf left and Olise on the right. Newcastle are weaker on the left side of defence than the right, so this might be a good game to give the young lad his debut. I thought Ayew played ok again at Arsenal, but Olise yet again looked more threatening in a brief cameo. He also takes a mean set-piece.

Other than that I wouldn't change anything

Bentekes Goal came as part of a Press he was involved in.. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he was there in anticipation not by chance! thought he looked lively vs Arsenal - well more than normal.

also, with ASM in their side, he'll be attacking both Mitchell and Ward, as he seems to like to switch flanks, so we may have our own
issues at Full Back. Ayew may play simply for that reason. Hope not though.

Benteke does what I can only describe as a fake press, or potentially a positional press.

He'll move in the direction of the man, or block off a pass at 75% speed. He does do it but its not done with real intensity.

In pressing theory its not a bad start for a team press (getting him to dictate where the first pass goes, and then set a trap).

But I'd much rather my front man to charge down like his life depended on it. It scares people into making mistakes.
