In my opinion we new to offload both of them in the Jan window Ayew; there is no position for Ayew, we don't play a Number 10, he cant play wide, doesn't have the pace and doesn't score enough goals as CF, no goals or assists in 20 matches, why Olise or Schlupp didn't come on sooner i don't understand. Benteke; he clearly wont score enough goals, it will be our last chance to get some money back, he will have 18 months left and his contract wont be renewed. Edouard should have an extended run now to see what he can do, and Mateta as the substitute, so he can be properly assessed, also Street is going to be a very good CF
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

I wouldn't worry too much about this. Edouard is clearly going to be our first choice striker. We need to stomach Benteke making a few cameos while OE gets his match fitness up. Likewise with Ayew he won't be anywhere near the team once Eze, Olise and Schlupp are fit. In some ways this is a positive because you know it's going to get better than with our current glaring limitations and we'llmore than likely put games like last night to bed.

Lack of confidence and out of position. Bench warmer longer term pending return of Eze and starts for Olise. Benteke - I would have thought for 15 minutes he might have worked his socks off, closing down defenders, run into space and generally make his presence known, but no, stroll around and do f*** all now the contract extension is secure. We're the mugs. If the two were combined there might be an average player in there. Ayew does work hard at least. Edited by southnorwoodhill (28 Sep 2021 8.43am)

Benteke sets up Ayew for sitter and game over 2 nil. P Patrick and his backroom team will have learnt so much from last nights game. Roll on Leicester.

He has been given far too much time on the pitch! Hi press will never happen with Benteke. Lucky if he does 1000 steps per game!!! Time to move on from him now!

Benteke's "game" is incompatible with PV's vision of how the he wants the team to play. High press, speed of pass, movement, thought, and energy. Benteke doesn't tick any of the boxes so I expect him to be phased out as the season progresses.

What planet are you lot on; benteke came on as a presence and to hold up the ball, it’s not his fault the rest of the team sat back. Love how he is somehow scapegoated

I think most agree that Ayew is playing out of position. The Manager is selecting him because he thinks he's currently the best man for the job. Olise only recently returned from injury and is unproven at this level. PV is breaking him in gently - I realise from reading your posts that this is a concept that you find difficult to grasp. As for Benteke, look at it this way. We spent big on Edouard. We potentially have spent big on Mateta, although I doubt we will see him signed permanently. We don't have unlimited funds. So re-signing Benteke made absolute sense. Edouard started last night and looks set to get a run in the team. Mateta is assessed, as are all the players, on a daily basis. If he's not getting game time there is a reason for it. As for Rob Street, I think he's a big, bustling grafter but I don't think he's even remotely close to a first team spot. And I'll go on record now and say that I don't think he'll make it at Palace although I hope I'm proven wrong.
