Benteke is not scoring enough from good chances. We need to play Edouard for the whole game. Ayew just doesn't have the goods for me. But the rest of the team is gelling nicely. Thoughts...

Benteke really doesn't cut it any more ,agree totally play your best forwards all the time, that means dropping Ayew as well, but we need to look at the back as well although we have bought well with the center's backs, something is wrong when we gift two goals at our keepers left hand side, that was inexcusable and very poor marking and cover!!

I think also when we play the bottom half sides the likes of Gallagher will get into forward positions more often with the positivity we are showing now

Edouard on his honeymoon period here.

Missed a sitter, misplaced passing, rash clearance led to a goal.

A poor display from Palace forwards.

I haven’t got a problem with our new attacking style of play and like very much that we are getting more players into the opponents penalty area. Yes, we are missing chances but at least we are making them. The bigger issue for me is our defending at set pieces as we aren’t picking up players which is why Liverpool got 2 against us with the 3rd being a worldly. And yes, the ref didn’t help us on Saturday as well with a pen not being given when perhaps it would have been if it was in our box :-( As good as Eduoard was against Spurs he missed a sitter on Saturday. I’m okay with Benteke softening up the opponents before bringing Eduoard on but we need to put our chances away. We didn’t get good enough contact on those chances that hit the post as well. Luck was against us on Saturday but at least we gave it a go with this new setup. We may lose matches playing this way but if we tighten at set pieces this will give us a chance - training ground preparation is required in my opinion or we will concede more? Bring on Brighton, I’m looking forward to it which I haven’t been under our previous manager. Let’s get at them :-)

Hardly a sitter, he had to bring it under control first.

Jotas miss was sitter Guaita on the floor and he blazed it over from 2 yards.

He wouldnt even have got into that position, standing on the edge of the box as usual, 16 goals, 4 seasons

I'm sure many would feel the same way, and I'd be disappointed if one or both of Edouard and Olise didn't start the next game ahead of Benteke and Ayew, assuming they're fit enough. It's a squad game though and everyone has a role to play.

In spite of the more limited contribution Benteke and Ayew may have had, I'd still agree that the team is knitting together well and moving in the right direction in terms of personnel and playing style. I'm hoping some valuable lessons will have been learned from Saturday's defeat, but am otherwise feeling very positive about the Vieira era so far.

I had to laugh when the radio London commentator expressed disappointment with Jordan Ayew shooting from an oblique angle with 2 Palace men waiting to convert a cross.

The crowd groaned as well, the scousers in sympathy.

Shortly after Zaha got himself in a mess over another chance and got the same treatment.

It had got ragged by then.

just ranted on another thread, but Benteke is done at PL level.

His goals early on kept us up, so a good signing all things considered, but eventually we have to stop hiding behind bonus and "nice to have" traits of "bringing others into the game" and "holding the ball up" as excuses for a striker who doesn't score, especially when that doesn't even result in others scoring either.

We're a low scoring team, with a bloke who consistently is given minutes and minutes to prove himself and frankly just looks out of energy and ideas time and again, fluffing headers and chances.

The difference in the pace upfront from everyone was so noticeable when OE came on, more inventiveness, movement and creativity.

Rant all you like but just stop to consider that Edouard isn't going to be playing alongside Benteke. PV is easing him in and unless Benteke rediscovers his late season form from last year, it's down to when OE replaces CB, not if.
