1, why was Ward given a two tear contract and not a one
2, if Viera only wants to play one DM, we have already, Jairo, Kouyate and Luka, so if he wants someone else out one.
3.The Luka situation doesn't add up to me, think some porkies being told.
4. Benteke and Ayew are not good enough and need replacing, maybe one in this window and one the next.
5.Mateta is young so we might as well keep him till the end of the season, then if we have to buy him and he isn't up to it, sell him.
6. we desperately need a wide player and CF in this window

1. He's the company plant.
2. All 3 are pony, he knows it.
3. Best not to speculate.
4. Both are pony, he knows it, and there's not enough money left to buy an available decent striker.
5. Mateta's pony.
6. Maybe we'll get lucky.

Three games in and the glaring problem we have got is lack of firepower, defence can do well, but if it has no one to release ball to we will constantly be under pressure and wilt in the end, really don't understand why the one signing that could have made a difference was Armstrong and as usual we are to tight to buy,it has been obvious for a season and a half Benteke is past it,even with his little late burst last season to boost his contract ,and poor old ayew really should have gone,he runs around going nowhere!we are not that far of a eaosnable team when all the injuries are back, but boy do we need a new striker!!!

Yes, the board has neglected the forward line. Instead midfield mediocrities like Schlupp, McCarthy, Riedewald, and Kouyate got preference.
PV has a job on his hands. A good signal of intent would be to sign a decent striker, easier said than done.

A creative midfielder (like Cabaye) is vital and if we do buy a couple of forwards/strikers please make sure they are fit and ready to play - no more Fergusons or Olises .. we had enough problems with Wickham .. we need to blood any new arrivals quickly.

With a rookie unproven manager time is not on our side.

Massive 6 days for the club until the transfer window closes.

All of below are obvious and nothing we all don’t know.

1. We need a new left back, in a team that will be playing more open Mitchell is getting exposed, still to raw, also no competition for his place making him be on his game every week.

2. Striker as an alternative type to Benteke, if we can get wide and put lots of crosses into the box Benteke will score. Alternatively if we are playing through the lines we need someone that can play off the shoulder of the CB. Mateta and Ayew offer nothing more than keeping a couple of bench seats warm.

3. That creative defence splitting ball playing midfielder, it’s fine having midfielders, strikers making runs but pointless if no one can deliver a ball

4. A formation that suits the style of playing out from the back, there are only two - 3 - 5 - 2 or 4 - 2 - 3 - 1. Both allows the full backs to push up the pitch as outlets and to get forward and cross the ball.

My two formation based on the current squad and those that are available

Butland
Tomkins (Kouyate) Andersen Guehi

Clyne Gallagher Kouyate (Milivojevic) McArthur Schlupp

Zaha Benteke

Or

Butland

Ward Andersen Guehi Mitchell

Kouyate (Milivojevic) McArthur

Gallagher Zaha Schlupp

Benteke

1. Ward is ok, good enough for a 2-year extension, and good to be a squad players but should not be our starting RB (that’s not his fault)
2. I’m sure he is trying. WH will be a bit more box to box
3. His Dad died, some time off isn’t that hard to understand surely?
4. No, they aren’t. CB wont work if we don’t cross, and JA is better through the middle
5. Apart from that Brighton goal, he has shown nothing, I’d rather we stopped pretending and got rid now
6. Agree. I’d go so far to say I think we should try and get 2 of each.

I’m, sure Parish knows the investment in the squad over the last 4/5/ seasons hasn’t been enough, and Roy did an amazing job with what he had. And given the De Boer fiasco, I’m sure he knows that if we are going to completely change the footballing philosophy then we need to change personnel too.

IMO we have 2 key issues that need addressing:

We need mobility at the top end of the pitch. Wilf and JA like the ball to feet, CB won’t move unless it’s a cross he can attack. We need a striker and/or a wide man that is willing to make runs in behind to stretch things. (Look at Pogba and Fernandes in week 1, Fernandes willing to gamble and Pogba good enough to find him).
CB’s role at the club should be like that of Any Carroll’s at the end of his Newcastle stint, impact sub if plan A isn’t working.

We need intensity and a willingness to get on the ball in the middle. CG will do both those roles for us, but we need another. WH may be the answer, or a mix of Lucca and Macca might give us that. Ideally we’d find another Yohan C, but they are not easy to find. When Eze is fit I’d expect him to play in the whole, and CG will drop a little deeper.

I had the same thoughts about trying 3-5-2.
It would get more width in the team and us playing higher up the pitch.
We'd also have the security of three good defenders.
It would also free Zaha to play a less restricted role in the forward areas.
The issue remains about who could play right wing back.
Much as I like Ward as a commited professional , this is not a role he's suited to and I'm unconvinced it's a role for Clyne either.
On the left Schlupp has played left wing back for Leicester and it's possible Mitchell could perform the role too.

I agree with what we have and with Eze and Olise back, A good striker to Partner Wilf and maybe loan RB, Maitland-Niles? But i would like to see us offload Benteke and Kelly and Maybe Luka, maybe one now and the other two at the winter window

Agree. Very unsure of Schlupp's position and think he could be used as LWB. Certainly worth a game and he cant do much worse than Mitchell at the moment.

Only person who could play RWB is Clyney but his best days are behind him. Ward is garbage. Ferguson can hope into the team on one leg as he hasnt got much competition.

Whilst I sympathize with his loss I wonder if he gets paid for his time off bearing in mind that he gets paid in a week what many HOLers earn in a year
