CAHILL LEAVES PALACE Gary Cahill has left Crystal Palace after two seasons at Selhurst Park. The club and the central defender couldn’t come to an agreement after weeks of talks. Palace will look to replace Cahill this month.

After much thought and deliberation, I can confirm that I have left Crystal Palace FC after an enjoyable two years. I have really enjoyed my time at the club and I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone involved at the club, especially the fans and staff who welcomed me into their South London family. It’s been a privilege to play at Selhurst Park, especially in that first season where I got to experience the atmosphere that the Eagles fans create on a match day. Playing in front of the Holmesdale Road stand is a memory that I will cherish in particular. I would like to wish the club all the best for the future and wish them every success for the coming season

Good servant for the 2 years, but with the 2 CB signings we don't really need him on large wages. Wish him all the best.

If he stayed that way who knows, we must have thought he had game time in him or why make him an offer to turn down? If we and he had a change of mind, he could still be engaged, even after the deadline.

I bet for the majority of us on here, if we somehow saw the terms of the contract he turned down regarding wages, signing fee, loyalty payments, image rights, appearance bonuses, points bonuses, win bonuses, clean sheet bonuses etc....etc.... we'd break out in a cold sweat. While we were without a Manager and lots of players were coming to the end of their contracts, I thought we would do that panic thing and offer everyone contracts foolishly. We offered Benteke and I thought - here we go. But if a players earns too much and we don't want to pay them, then they can either move on to something else, or accept a reduction. Anyone know if CB took less money to stay?

Will be interesting to see who takes him on. Perhaps it will be Rangers after all. Interesting also that The Athletic says: "The sporting director, Dougie Freedman, had long earmarked this summer as an opportunity to rejuvenate the whole set-up, clearing some of the older and higher-earning players off the books with the expiry of their deals at the end of last month and bringing in younger legs". So it seems the club knew what they were doing all along.

Clyne has not ,as yet, been re-signed,so it is Ward or Kelly, no obvious back up for Mitchell and if Kouyate is a midfielder we are down to three centre backs, Tomkins, Guehi and Andersen. Not enough!

Tbh I thought Cahill was OTT when he arrived but he proved me wrong big time. He was one who in May I would have liked to have seen stayed for another year but he has seen the writing on the wall and has no doubt made the right decision. Cheers Gary - thanks & good luck.
