But surely our Under 23 s could have bared the weight , That’s not to say they would have won the games. But this is where they need to be if to many have any chance of first team football in the near future, or even at all. It would seem they may well not be considered ready for the kind of work out Pompey, represent. And that would surely say that anyone thinking we can roll these kids through in the near future, has to think again.

Even I, the eternal optimist, especially regarding all things Palace, am somewhat bothered by the fact that we can't rustle up enough players to make a team for a match with Portsmouth. This is not how any of us expected to start the season I'm sure.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Posted this on other thread. The best explanation I can come up with is that PV is still working on the primary system he wants to deploy. Good news is that we aren't going to see a FdB conviction based system perhaps but he's still looking at what he's got and wondering how to make it work. Bad news is he doesn't know what he's going to do yet! Originally posted by Midlands Eagle

Yes it's very embarrassing but PV has just arrived, we have allegedly no backroom staff and we have let go of a sizable number of players. We should have cobbled together a squad for the game and may have has an AWB moment or an even more red faced situation.
Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course). |

This is a regrettable situation and must be very embarrassing for all concerned. Parish as usual has left everything to the last minute because of his controlling nature that obviously did not go down well with some of the previous candidates and poor PV who has just arrived and is faced with a difficult situation in terms of squad numbers. Whilst I understand the comments about the u18/23, it really is not good practice to put them forward if they are not ready as an embarrassing scoreline/defeat will just dent their confidence going forward. I do not see how PV can be expect come up with a system to play unless he knows the tools at his disposal and the ability of those individuals concerned. Sorry but once again Parish and his dithering and procrastinating personality has got us into this mess and we all know how that went when FdB came in!

Actual results in preseason are instantly forgotten and early preseason fixtures often feature loads of fringe players and a few first teamers doing a half at most. WH for instance are just about the only PL team to play yet and they featured very few first teamers. From memory they got a draw with A Scottish team. Originally posted by Den1923
