I know some have strong views on Dougie but he knows the players understands the Club works well with Parish it seems. He was the Manager that put the team together that got us promoted to the Premier.

After watching When Eagles Dare, I can't see many better qualified. For where we are right now, it makes complete sense and would be less of a gamble.

He is also the Sporting Director that put the current team together bringing in such superstars as Max Meyer, Alexander Sorloth and Jaroslav Jach in the process. He also failed at Bolton and Nottingham Forest so perhaps management really isn't his forte

We can only guess that if Freedman had stayed we would still have gone up. At Bolton and Forest he was less than impressive. I suspect that like Dowie he earned his managerial reputation because the footballing "stars" all aligned at the right time. Most of his signings came off which was fantastic at that level of football. Surely the mark of a good manager is to repeat success at other clubs which he and Dowie failed to do.

Why would we appoint someone who hasn't managed for years, whose only real success was a brief period with us, who has no PL management experience and who has not even been involved in coaching since returning? I'd rather see Shaun Derry given the job (to be clear I don't want him either).

Who knows what could have happened if he hadn't quit for Bolton . He did ok up there but not enough to get into the play-offs and had mixed success at Forest. He hasn't managed for over five years and I can't see him being considered at Palace or any other Premier League club any time soon.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

The question at the time was were they his signings or Lennie Lawrence's? When he was here as a manager he was very green and hence the older statesman in Lawrence. We will never know but his unknown purchases as DOF have mostly been less than impressive. By this I mean a lot of the players like Cahill knew how Hodgson worked.

From Dougie's perspective, he's got a reasonably secure and presumably well paid job as DoF, why would he risk that to become (clearly) a Marmite manager who's likely to only be in a job for a couple of years and who's chances of not being seen as a success are pretty high? Not a chance IMHO.

Why not Terry Byfield if we're doing an internal recruitment
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |
