Steves looking at Emilys legs, she"s quite fcukable, Emily is looking at Steve, thinking , with all his money, why doesn"t he get his nose sorted, meanwhile, Susanna and myself are snuggled up watching with the knowledge we have another half hour to play.

Best transcript I could come up with - apologies for any errors in writing it down: Emily Maitliss, John Smith (Super Agent for Maradona helped set up PL) and Steve Parish
Steve - They hope it will blow over. This has been a long time in the making from these guys and its actually quite good we finally got visibility on their plans. No one is coming out in favour as it's pretty indefensible. The condemnation of it has been universal and most welcome. Emily - So does that mean that money will just do the talking for them they don't need to - or do you think it might never happen? Steve - Personally I don't think it will happen, I hope it doesn't happen - I think we need to work out where do we go for here? Things were being reformed by UEFA in the Champions League anyway and they were a lot of things these guys were getting by stealth - next year for example 30% of the money will be distributed based on your history. So it's hard to ever find out what is enough for these guys. Last week there were 140 of them in the ECA this week they are down to 12. They have jettisoned about 130 clubs. Emily talks to John Super Agent for a bit about whether justifiable, what are they trying to solve? Super Agent - It is primarily Financial. Then talks about how it was right to set up the PL - but there isn't the same need - supported Oliver Dowden's speech in the House of Commons Bit if back of forth with Emily about the PL
Emily - As a Chairman Steve that must be hugely attractive, I mean, at the moment it is the first 6, if it was 12 or 13 then Crystal Palace would be there - you wouldn't be saying no to that? Steve: Of course we would say no to it - of course we would - we could try and get everyone together in the Premier League and try to vote against relegation - these guys don't even know what jeopardy is - for clubs like us we could be in League One in two years no problem at all down to £4m a year - we would never vote for relegation to be removed from the Premier League as it is part of the enjoyment and fun and jeopardy of watching football Emily to John - but that is the American model - who is not a part of the model but then says a bit more about how this could be a £10bn model and that these people are not stupid and they will have a broadcast option or model that is way beyond what the PL model is. Asks Steve if they came to him and asks him to be one of the people and say your company is worth £300m - to break the Sky contract that is not worth quite as much and come with us and look what we got we are £10s of billions
Steve: This is an abhorrent proposal to most people in football Emily: Can I put I put it to you Steve that we talk about the clubs like they are small local towns but they are not they are already international global businesses there are 250 million Man U fans in China - that doesn't belong to Manchester anymore Steve: No, neither you could argue does it belong to the people like me or the current owners who happen to the the owners of the club at the time. Football really in the end belongs to the supporters. And nobody wants this. Today we saw Sadiq Khan, Boris Johnson, Macron... Emily: Would you want to see the Government step in? Steve: Of course we would rather sort it out ourselves. We would rather have a sensible conversation with these guys and talk about what they want, if they want to organise their own tournament away from UEFA I am not sure I am totally against that - I am not sure I care - but what I do care about is that there is a Pyramid and there is access and you have to qualify every year based on merit and not on an arbitrary period of history that you come up with that suits you - that you don't get rid of Villa and Forest who have won the tournament - it is ludicrous the proposition that they have put forward - and what they have invited is a Tsunami - where we might end up with Government in the game, legislating, and making fan ownership part of it. None of us really think that probably overall that that is a positive way to go and we would urge them to come to us and sit down with us and have a conversation and we can solve it. In the end they are not leaving our league, they are leaving the Champions League, so its really down to UEFA to fix this if they can.

Well done to Steve for getting himself on a relatively high profile slot. Made his points well even though, as Midlands says, he's not the best orator. Keeps Palace out there. Oh, and dream on Croydon!
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
