Difficult away fixture and we will do well to get a point.

Let's see what team the Manager picks.
It'll be interesting to see how he reacts to 0-7.
Most likely to return to defensive mindset?

A.Villa have lost 3 and drawn 1 of their last 4 home games.
They have won 2 of their last 3 games, both away, and I expect them to triumph against us.

I've been pondering this issue, and though it would be an understandable for a manager to prioritise a solid defensive performance in such circumstances, I don't think Roy actually makes significant tactical changes from match to match.

For better or for worse, he picks a system at the start of the season, embeds it preseason and reinforces it week in, week out thereafter.

The factor most affecting our attack/defence balance is availability of decent forwards, and Roy almost never leaves them out when they are available.

On that basis I reckon we'll continue in much the same manner as we have been recently.

Good post, BigToePunt, thank you.
My fear is that Ollie Watkins, who might have come our way, will figure on the score sheet.
I suspect Kouyate will be the fall guy and get dropped.
Possibly Clyne too?
So a back four of Ward, Dann, Tomkins, Mitchell? But that's probably too many changes. And you're right; the manager likes programmatic selection.
The problem is that against Spurs and West Ham, Palace played very good football. But the psychological damage of 0-7 is a factor and whether RH responds cavalierly (unlikely) or conservatively we shall see. Prediction due one hour before kick off!

True, but he needs to change the personnel for this match, not just because we took a pasting last match but clearly a fair few players are flagging due to the game workload. He can play the same system if need be but some rotation might be required. Tekkers, Mitchell, Townsend, Mccarthy ? Game might be decided on which team keeps Grealish or Wilf quiet. Love your optimism on score think it will be a lower scoring draw 1-1.

If we get outworked due to our players lack of energy and mobility the 'Alarm bells' will really start to ring in respect of our prospects of staving off relegation.

We will do what we did on Boxing Day 2013 and win 1-0 away to Villa...

Then it was a Dwight Gayle screamer in the 90 minute, this time a Tekkers tap in!

yes we will be tired but so will they and Roy will make changes especially to the back four. I am going for a 4-3 to us. Merry Xmas and a happy new year to all.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

they'll be hurting after Liverpool and have a chance to redeem themselves in front of a national audience, a proper Roy anti football draw with our ageing midfield running itself into the ground to stop Villa playing,
thank you very much 0-0
