Apparently Saint-Maxim is out, which is a bonus. Still no news on the mystery COVID trio at Newcastle. Hopefully at least one of them is an important player as based on Monday we'll need all the help we can get. Carroll is out too, which is great as he's always a pain against us.

I predict the referee may have to take possession of the ball as neither team will want it I previously said we'd beat Burnley and lose this. I'm hoping I was wrong on both counts.

First goal wins methinks.

I'll therefore say 1 or 2-0 to Newcastle.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Since the 5-1 thrashing we gave them, there have been FIVE 1-0 results (two for us and 3 for them) and two draws (0-0 and 1-1). So hardly a goalfest in recent years. As we haven't kept a clean sheet since the opening day, 0-1 looks likely but as a Palace fan I'll go for 1-0 to us.

We lose tonight,on the back of the Burnley defeat, and there will be an outpouring of bile with Hodgson facing shot and shell, and of course certain players will also feel the wrath of HOL.

He will just feel grateful there are no supporters in the stadium to vent their spleens as he makes his way to the tunnel at the end of the game.

And your prediction is?

One suspects that this question has not been posed in order to ascertain my prognostication on the likely outcome.

Perhaps I am wrong and you have a real yearning to witness how I envisage our fate tonight.Given my abysmal record, whatever scoreline I predict will be way off the mark!
Not to be deterred, my feeling is that HOL will be awash with ordure tonight!

I'm not sure tonight's result will change many people's opinions unless we either A) suddenly become an attacking threat and smash them by a hatful of goals, or B) they do the same but to us. If it's a narrow win for either side (which is the most likely outcome) then I think people's views will remain largely as they are. The only thing more predictable than a 1-0 score line is that it will be accompanied by a Willo vernacular spectacular

If my memory serves me right, Hodgson has an impressive record against our visitors; claiming 22 points from 15 games v Newcastle and losing just once from nine with Bruce.

I believe Newcastle have lost more Premier League away games in London than any other side in the competition’s history (79). However, the Magpies are unbeaten in the capital so far this season (W1 D1).
They have won three of their seven trips to London in the league under Bruce (D1 L3), as many victories as in their previous 21 away matches against sides from the capital.

I feel we will be well advised to stick to our fairly judicious shooting approach this season, with Newcastle ‘keeper Karl Darlow making more saves than any other top-flight shot stopper this season (41). Only Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy (87.5%) has a better save percentage than Darlow (72.2%).
We may catch Darlow and his teammates out with late shots, however, as the Magpies have conceded seven of their 15 goals after the 76th-minute. They have also scored five of their 10 in the same period.
But, be warned, Newcastle have taken the fewest shots of any side this season (72), so ‘keepers at either end must strive to stay alert - especially in the game’s final exchanges.

If I remember correctly Hodgson fielded Michy Batshuayi against Burnley, replacing Wilfried Zaha who was omitted from the travelling squad as he is self-isolating.
Tyrick Mitchell returned to Palace’s bench alongside Joel Ward. Bar the suspended Luka Milivojevic, then, we appear to be without any other recent absentees.
Newcastle appear to have been boosted midweek, with Callum Wilson confirmed as fit to play. With Ryan Fraser unavailable, Bruce said "We have got one or two other niggles. We have one or two problems with COVID."
Matt Ritchie and Jonjo Shelvey may be in-line to return and Jamaal Lascelles remains a doubt.

I’m going for 1-1
