I think Clyne's recent impact on Palace has gone under the radar a little: No fireworks, just defensive consistency, which is exactly what we need.

He offers great defensive solidity - where Ward lacks, tactical nous, has the speed to get himself out of trouble and provides support in the attacking half.

It will take more time to integrate and adjust, but he's already proven real astute signing. Well done to management!

Not sure he's been great but he will likely improve with each game. He was rated 'poor' by Bielsa after the game. One set of stats showed he won zero challenges, lost possession 17 times and was dribbled past twice. Van Aanholt, on the other hand, played well.

Agree with sentiment but I think he was actually pretty terrible against Leeds, awful positioning, hesitated for the Bamford goal that counted and was dreadful on the ball.
Having said all that, I love him and will be happy if he plays every week.

I’m afraid he hasn’t impressed me at all so far, but in fairness it’s very early days and he’s hardly played in recent seasons.
It’s a conundrum because the ever dependable Ward should return when fit, but then how is Clyne going to get up to speed and attain match fitness if he doesn’t feature.

I'm another one I'm afraid who has been far from impressed... Yes I appreciate hes not played regularly for some time but he looks a shadow of the player we had the first time round.
Obviously I wasnt expecting him to be near to that level but I can see why he couldnt even get in Bournemouth's side last year.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

He was at Bournemouth the season before last and played 14 times for them in the PL. He wasn't at Bournemouth last season, in fact he never played a single game 2019-20.
His last game prior to joining us was in May 2019 when he played for Bournemouth in their 5-3 defeat against us.

I think he looks (what I would call) understandably shaky for now as given he hadn't played for a year it is somewhat expected. The assumption is he will slowly improve in which case it will be great for us however if he does not there will be questions asked.

One thing I have enjoyed, although there will be some who will experience an emotional breakdown as a result of my criticism of the player, is not seeing the ball go out to the right and Joel Ward looking like a deer in the headlights as he panics and plays an inevitable ball down the line, like he literally has no other choice. If that ball ever goes anywhere in any case, it is often to a very isolated Townsend leading me to ponder 'what is the point in ever going to the right side'.

It may not have been very effective so far but Clyne does actually look like he can contribute to the retention of possession and attack far better from RB, which we have been sorely missing. It at least gives us, or gives the impression to other teams that we have, an option to go down the right too.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I expect improved performances from Burnley onwards.

He has been trepidatious so far, and to me doesn't seem a player who trusts his own body in contact.

With the ball he's been okay but no more.

The work he does between Burnley and January will define his compensation for the next 2 years. He has lucked out to find himself as a starting right back for a Premier league team. He has to grab that opportunity.

So I think he will give himself a talking to and turn the corner at Turf Moor. If selected.

Always liked Clyne, but thought he looked poor and often bad positioning against Fulham. Not much better against Wolves. but started to find his feet against Leeds. Clearly needs the games to get fully up to EPL match speed

It is good we have cover but Clyne is not the answer but I hope to see Tyrick Mitchell at right back after the break.
