In light of banning all fans from grounds, other than the prem who rely on sky as their main source of income, how will other pro clubs survive? I think their main source by far is the gate, hospitality etc. Without that I can’t see their chairmen funding huge wages with no income.

The reality is that England has a disproportional number of professional clubs that have always existed hand to mouth. Maybe it is time to restructure the football league and salary caps across the board. Change the Championship into Premier 2, which it effectively is now but without the funding.

Eventually it will all even itself out, once players contracts come to an end. Going forward new player contracts will have to be for less. If you were on on 100k per week but now only get 60k then so be it, it’s still better than working on a building site for £150 a day

Let’s be straight. This is ALL about players wages (managers too).

I agree that Wages age the major outlay, and should be reduced if possible. But, if we reduce wages significantly - and this especially applies to wages in the Prem, whats to stop players simply moving abroad in search of better wages, and weakening our own league?

Some good points made I agree with most. I think the era of crazy money for bang average players is coming to an end which is why I am not bothered that many of our squad are out of contract at the end of next season. With one or 2 exceptions I expect they will be offered less money. How many of our squad would walk into another PL side? Those that can will be looked after if not by us by another club. The rest can moan as much as they like but a player on 50k a week who is not wanted on those terms elsewhere can be replaced from the Championship where the players and their clubs will be very keen to move. It is quite likely that Sky and the big boys will form some kind of breakaway league however I do not want to see that and if it happens say goodbye to everything below the Championship. As for our players going abroad, never going to happen. The better players have always had that option but the other major leagues are in a financial mess maybe even worse than us so the same rule applies great players will always be alright. Worrying times if you love football, unfortunately the FA are spineless and the clubs selfish and greedy I really hope I am wrong about this. Edited by Badger11 (23 Sep 2020 10.26am)

Won't there be reduced wages worldwide?

One of the best things about England is the depth of the game. These tiny clubs with fervent fans and rich histories. It made me very sad when Bury folded. I have a massive soft spot for them (they're my 2nd team). It would be tragic to see 40 or 50 lower league sides fold. You just have to hope they don't lose their stadia. If they don't, hope remains.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |
