When Sam Allardyce resigned I read that he recommended Chris Wilder, then of Northampton Town admittedly, to Steve Parish. SP employed FDB. I have no idea whether SP spoke to Chris Wilder or whether he turned us down, but I'm watching Sheffield United snuff out Chelsea, thinking if only.

When Allardyce resigned, Wilder was manager of Sheff Utd. Not quite correct. CW has stated he was on his way to Palace when he received a call from Sheffield Utd chairman, he said as a lifelong fan it was a no brainier but if he had not received the call he would have travelled down to Palace

I recall Allardyce recommending Wilder based on his excellent track record at his various clubs.

Ngl I feel like us fans had something to do with that. We were clamouring for the club to "show some ambition" after Sam left. We were recoiling at the idea of Dyche or Roy, imagine what how we'd have reacted to a League One manager the previous season being appointed. Think Parish feared the fans and went for de Boer for a statement of intent, despite being in no position to back him. One reason why he'll likely never listen to us again

I take on board all that's been said. I didn't go on to full research on Google. I just know that Sam Allardyce recommended him to SP and I was watching the game thinking "what if". It wasn't even a criticism of SP

I seem to recall SP stating that FDB was very much an also ran for the job until he interviewed and did a presentation in which he showed he had done a lot of homework and gone into a lot of analysis as to how he could transform the playing style utilising the (then) current squad etc. Apparently this really swayed the board and hence why he got the job. So up to that point its perfectly reasonable that someone like Wilder was the preferred option.
