I just thought this could be an interesting discussion, because with Palace having the oldest squad in the Premier League, returning to full fitness in time will be an even bigger challenge for some of our players. And that's if none of them decide not to return straight away for health reasons (understandable, of course). So I was wondering what the likelihood of some youngsters finally getting a chance to show their stuff was? There are some promising youngsters on the fringes of the side like Woods, Kirby, Dreher and Raymond but they just haven't been given the opportunities, and that's why some youngsters have left (Levi Lumeka, for example, who's actually doing well in Portugal).

I was thinking the same thing this morning. Given that we are almost certainly safe and have very little to play for and also that there are going to be a lot of games packed into a few weeks wouldn’t it be a great opportunity to give some of the youngsters a chance. What have we got to lose?

pompeyeagle Sadly "We" will look at the £1.9 per place available first & foremost I think; especially with the lost income from playing behind closed doors. Then is Roy's distrust of anyone who went to school in the past 8 years etc etc.

I'm surprised our squad is still intact as most would probably reside in nursing homes.

It's like people are making out are players are really old when they are not. Some of them could say are at their peak. These are top level sports people it doesn't take long to get back up to speed if the season starts again as the rumors suggest around 20 June that is plenty of time. The one big thing I don't like about this is it's not fair due to what if players are suffering after effects of having the virus and I don't see how it will work with the likes of loan players etc this is why the season should of been stopped (contracts as well expire soon for some players they can't be expected to play out of contract) The youngsters are not going to get a see in it will be the same as usual with Roy he will go for his favorites. We may be save but places are still up for grabs so we have a real chance of climbing up the table even more which which give us more £££ as well.

Whilst this is exceptional circumstances cannot see the manager throwing in youngsters unless we are mathematically safe which will be late in the season. Business as usual I'm afraid. COYP !!

Whilst true, this is a little short cited. If we give 4 youngsters a go and one of them is the next AWB/Zaha, we’ve could have a big asset. Surely the point of the academy is to develop players who either make it to the first team or who could be sold at a profit. Now is the perfect opportunity to give a few of them a chance. If it costs us two league positions and £3.8m it’s not the end of the world. Gamble worth taking in my opinion. That said, I’ve no idea how good our current youngsters are.

I know it's about money but like I said earlier if we are mathematically safe there is no pressure. If we are virtually safe it is still there to perform as the older players mentally will have to perform as well. One more win and try some kids.
