Worrying to have so many injuries with two games coming up in the next six days.
Cahill missing yesterday. Ward out until January. Dann hobbles off. Townsend nursing a cold pack yesterday. Anyone got any good news about all of this?

We knew we only had one natural right back when we sold AWB. So that one's our own fault. We also knew we had no real winger cover - so crap recruitment largely to blame.
Hell at least we're okay if two or three goalies get injured.

I was quite suprised to see Tompkins back yesterday after he hobbled off in the Liverpool match. So, perhaps Townsend and Dann will recover quickly as well - fingers crossed.

Kelly was selected for England as a right back in 2012 by Roy, so all this no right back cover is nonsense.

Calm down, oldest trick int boook: go on the sick at Christmas.
I'm planning on it myself I tell thee. Just have to get the final sign on day owt way and then I can go on sick without the boss seeing me outside job centre like he did last year.

With the greatest of respect, Kelly came on with minutes to go to replace the right-back who might have been injured.Kelly wasn't selected to start at right-back by Hodgson.Playing in central defence is his preferred position.

Just got back from the Burnley game (made a weekend of it) Stayed after the match to get some autographs. Scott Dan hobbled on to the coach. Townsend seemed OK. Cahill nowhere to be seen. Rest of the team in high spirits. Got to say, Guaita was amazing in goal... He made two world class saves... Long time since I have said that. More than happy to sign autographs and chat to the fans..top bloke

He played as first choice right back for Liverpool in the 2012 season under Brendon Rodgers. I don't argue that he now prefers playing in the centre of the defence now, but he has a lot of experience at right back.

Kelly played Right Back for the England U21 s when Wilf was playing there (Stuart Pearce was manager) - watched him in Azerbaijan - Wickham played too.

That was where he was played when he was younger and at Palace Ward and AWB were better than him.

Sakho and Tomkins at Centre Back - what a great pairing.

We've conceded 4 goals in the 684 minutes that Kelly's been on the pitch this season. He's been great this season. Great.

I would have him over all of them.

Roy has already said they are 'managing' Townsend's ongoing injury and I wouldn't be surprised to see him replaced with Schlupp on Tuesday more as a precaution. Kelly is a fine understudy to Ward and is probably better in the air if not quite as good going forward. Providing two out of our five centre-backs are fit then that should be fine too, although I do wonder if Sakho is ready for 90 minutes given his horror show when he was rushed back for Spurs.

With such a small squad we are vulnerable, but it might also mean some other players get a chance. I thought Riedewald played well in pre-season, for example, and given his wages surely Meyer needs to try and earn them? And what about McCarthy? I've kind of given up on ever seeing Camarassa. Hopefully in January we can replace one or two of our abundance of midfielders with one or two fullbacks, wingers and/or strikers.
