The last few games our passing going forward has been awful and most disappointing.
The number of times passes have gone astray or directly to opposition players or have been passed behind the player thus requiring the player to wait for the arrival of the ball and allowing opposition defenders to get back in position has been pitiful in my opinion.
It seems to me that the basics of football skills are being able to control the ball and pass, not just accurately but intelligently.
Leicester are a perfect example of good passing skills which enables them to move forward and attack at pace.
I believe if this important aspect of our game improved by 50 percent the number of goals scored would also increase significantly.
Sort it out Roy!.

We have got to be the worst passers in the history of world football. Absolutely shocking how we can’t pass the ball 10 yards. The only players capable of an accurate pass are our centre half’s.

Leicester is an interesting example.
Rodgers has taken essentially the same group of players as Puel and transformed them.
Puel wanted them to be dogged and defend and try to sneak wins.
Rodgers has them moving with pace and purpose and only passing backwards as a last resort.
Hodgson is similar to Puel in approach and perhaps our squad would flourish if it was released a little while still retaining defensive discipline.
Unfortunately, because of the failure of the FDB experiment and the chaos of Pardew’s latter days many fans seem to have bought into the argument that we can only survive by grinding out results.
But we have played progressive football under Hodgson in periods and I’m at a loss why we have gone so defensive this season.
Few can dispute that playing this negative way is not getting the best out of Zaha or Townsend, and is unlikely to see Benteke return to form even if selected.

Got to agree. Yesterday was horrific with the ball. Our retention of the ball is awful. Why do we continually give it away. When we are not playing back to the keeper or CB’s and we actually have to look forward we have a nose bleed. Even basic level like playing the ball in front of the player is beyond us. What are we doing in training. Not Roy’s style though is it. He’s not interested in ball players like, Max, Camarasa and even Jairo. I’m convinced he sees the silver lining in Wilf going so he can get Schlupp in to replace him. fed up of Roy’s tactics, or lack of them. Guys got no plan B.

Take me back to Wilf, Yala and Murray. That’s our DNA not this turgid style. I know Roy’s done well, he really has and maybe it’s me that needs to evolve but honestly Roy’s killing me!

The strange thing is that this inability to pass quickly and accurately has plagued us ever since we returned to the Premier League. We've never had enough players in the side at any one time who can make pin-point passes. Our opposition, whoever they may be, always seem better equipped in this department.

I suppose one could question whether this matters too much if we have survived 6 seasons in the top league. But, it is very frustrating to watch as we ponderously move forward ( or sideways and backwards as is often the case) and then lose the ball.It is also holding us back from progressing from perennially hovering around the relegation zone.

Thank Christ it's not just me then that thinks this. Our passing has been woeful for the last 7 years. It's hard enough winning games in this league without constantly giving the ball back to the opposition. It's absolute basics.
I've missed two home games in those last 7 years, and the frustration is starting to get the better of me. It's starting to become a chore. I never expect to win. If we do, it's a bonus.

"The last few games"? We've always been an awful passing side! It's one of the reasons why teams are happy to come to Selhurst, sit back and let us have the ball - we'll roll it from side to side but are incapable of fast aggressive passing or penetrating forward balls.

I couldn’t agree with this thread less.

The lack of young players / legs, intensity and ability to beat a man and lack of balance in the squad is our biggest problem.
