Let’s be honest, All these rules about who can play for what country are a bit of a joke. Wilf played for England before he played for the Ivory Coast. Why can’t he come back and play for us in Russia?

Why can’t he come back and play for us in Russia? He did not have a full cap and so still had the option to play for the Côte d'Ivoire, with whom he does have a full cap. Zaha has made his choice and that is the end of the matter, as you well know.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

I agree that some of the rules on qualification for what country you can play for are a joke . For me its the country of your birth end of . I'm glad that Wilf came to the same conclusion even if it was maybe influenced by him being omitted from England squads . International football is in the main based on not losing ,England are as boring to watch as any and I wouldn't like Wilf to be associated with such a set up .

As much as I can understand ambition I'm hoping, if we survive he can be persuaded to stay, big fish in little pond syndrome that some have suggested. Adored here with a guaranteed starting position if fit, going to a 'Big 6' team & he'll be just another OK player. He's paid a good wage here now too & Wilf loves to be on the pitch, can't see anyone offering substantially more in wages so it boils down to how much he wants to play regularly.

Or, incidentally, Premier League winner medal, FA Cup Winner medal, League Cup winner medal, Europa Cup winner medal, Champions Cup winner medal, and more...

Whether we like it or not, Pep really could make Wilf into something special. Look at the return he’s got from Sterling this season, and for me Wilf is 10x the player he is. I’d love to see Zaha retire here. But if he did ever want to play for a big club again, we can’t stand in his way. He’s given everything to us, and you’d have to be fairly blinkered to argue he doesn’t deserve a whole lot more than the football he’s been served up with in the last 2-3 years. He can’t wait for us to get our act together forever, he’s too good.
We're the Arthur over ere! |

Zaha only played in friendlies for England. If zaha has come on as a sub in a competitive game he would only be allowed to play for England. Now he has played competitively for Ivory Cost he cannot switch back.

I watched a couple of IC's games in the World Cup qualifying campaign and felt quite sorry for him. Apart from Wilf they were f***ing s***e. He ran rings round defenders, chased lost balls, carried the ball everywhere, bailed out poor midfielders and then had to supply a centre-forward who made Bumfluff look like Ronaldo.
