I have an Echo Dot which I absolutely love. The Sonos integration has been promised and there's a beta of the "skill" out now from what I've read so I'd certainly recommend it. I have it set up to turn my TV and sounbar on and off, it can control my heating (I have smart heating with Heat Genius), I'll be getting smart bulbs from Ikea this year too and I've managed to get it to control my home media centre (Kodi). At the moment, I've also got Google Home on it so I can have the best of both worlds. Go for it I say!

This Echo thingy turns your TV and sound bar on and off. How is that better than using the remote control(s)?

You talk to Echo which saves you having to get up and get the remote control / switch the lights on or off or adjust the heating. It also does far more as you can tell it to play a particular track or album

Handy when the kids lose a remote too. Honestly though, I like it because it is futuristic. The mrs hates it!
