I'm not sure who should be more offended; people called Maria, Andrew, Irma etc who have destructive forces of nature named after them and are thereby judged unfavourably, if subliminally, by others; or people from certain faiths who are obviously ignored by the namers of said forces and who never have a hurricane or storm named after them. In this age of equality, it needs sorting.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

It's actually done on purpose. They give them a local name to make them sound familiar and gets them talked about more. So we'll never have a storm Ravinder or a storm Chong etc. We will get some weird Irish names that never make sense. I'll never understand how Aisling (as in Bea) is pronounced Ashleen.
Optimistic as ever |

I think boring names should be used to stop widespread panic. If hurricane Colin or hurricane Gary was headed my way then I'd be less concerned than hurricane Troy or hurricane Damien. No offence to anyone here called Gary or Colin.

Apparently the next named storm in the UK is storm Brian. Terrifying.

I guess on the downside, if you're killed in storm Brian it'll be hard for the attendees at your funeral not to giggle a bit.

Perhaps they could use some of the current crop of sh1te names for these storms in the hope that people will stop inflicting them on their kids?
Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune) |
