I know this is not a position that most male and female HOL posters find themselves in.
I have frequently laughed at my own friends short-falls in common-sense.

I have recently come to the conclusion that I may have made the odd bad decision in life/careers/social life.

I used to blame other people for my mishaps, but after nearly 50 years on this planet, the penny is finally dropping.
I have some faults.
Not too many, but enough to make myself look a cook (SP?) on a few occasions.

I have entered a 10k sponsored run next Sunday 17th and have done no training whatsoever, apart from surfing the 'net for adult videos and masturbating to HOL profile pictures.

Which is going to be more painful ?
1.To withdraw from the race and return sponsorship money
2. To run / walk the fcking thing and hope medical assistance is not needed.

anyone else ? or is you perfick

As a qualified running coach (did I already mention that?) then I will say without doubt, run-walk it.

Even with zero training you can walk 6 miles (apologies if I'm ignoring any disabilities or anything that may make that statement invalid). Any running is a bonus. Don't feel ashamed with any walking you do, even if it's the majority of your event.

My first ever half marathon I had raised a tonne of money for charity and then lost my number on the day of the race. I had to toy with whether or not to do it as my result would be unofficial and I wasn't sure they'd let me claim my medal. Glad I did it rather than let my sponsors down.

Good luck mate.

Oh and anyone that thinks they don't have faults is deluded!

I know I have loads of faults which I will probably never overcome so I just try to restrict them to only hindering my own life and not anyone else's

Cheers PTJ

I have a friend who regularly used to run marathons for Charidee. One weekend he was feeling bad, but decided to go ahead with the run.
He is still alive, 12 years later, after needing a heart and lung transplant after collapsing on the run.

I am not competitive, and fully expect to finish long after spectators and medics have gone home.

My wife cannot map-read. As navigator (in car passenger seat), she once directed me into Swansea town centre, as opposed to Kidwelly. - Easy enough with all that Welsh on the road signs.

As a trained mechanic, I once took my own car for a test-drive after servicing. Only to find I hadn't tightened the wheelnuts on the front near-side wheel, as the wheel overtook me on a large roundabout and the car ploughed into the tarmac.

If you had been talking about a Marathon my answer would've been different. I had to pull out of the last Marathon I tried (was my 7th I think) part way through and I would've done even if I had raised money for charity.

I've often said comparing a Marathon to a Half Marathon or 10k is like comparing swimming with darts. It's just not the same game.

Even a Half Marathon with no training I'd possibly have offered different advice even then.

But a 10k shouldn't put you in hospital if you listen to your body. During the event regularly assess whether anything feels out of sorts. I don't mean aching or being a wee bit out of breath, but if the exertion feels too much, walk or even stop.

I assume there is no cut off or time limit? If so, just stay safe and take it easy. You probably walk 6 miles in a day at times without even noticing it anyway. I walked round the shops the other day looking for a birthday card for someone and when I looked at my Garmin watch I'd walked 6 miles!

Regarding medics/marshals, they won't go home while you're still out there unless they've specified a cut-off time and you're not on course for it (in which case they'll usually make you stop). A well organised event wouldn't be able to get their licence to if they couldn't satisfy health and safety concerns around marshalling the course sufficiently.

I should also add -

Hydrate sufficiently (you can over-hydrate and muck up your electrolyte balance but you'd have to go some to do that)
Dress sensibly (coat and hat might make you overheat)
Don't bombard your body with sugar before you start (you'll feel great at the start but probably need a lie down by about 3 miles!)
Don't take painkillers to get through (they can mask the bio-feedback from your body and prevent you from reacting correctly to problems your body wants you to know about. In extreme circumstances they've caused issues in the gut that have killed even quite experienced runners)

I should say that you still partake at your own risk and you can't come back and sue me if it goes tits up!

Number 1, will be the more painful.
Number 2, is the correct choice, what is the worst thing that can happen if you walk it, it might take an hour longer than you thought.

You're asking me what it's all about, and I can't tell you because I don't know what's going on myself.

Who knew I'd been partaking in exercise. My favourite HOL pic to w*** over is the blank women picture, as I imagine all those people who thought, if I put a picture up, they'll only w*** over it -

I like to w**k over my own as I imagine everyone else enjoying my beautiful photo. And because I am a huge narcissist that fancies no one more than himself.
