Not a good end to the year for that family bless 'em.

Probably still another "Big Name" to croak it before Big Ben chimes 12 times in 2 days time!

2016 - the year of the dead celebrity!

No one should have to suffer the loss of a son or daughter, no matter what their age. And after the sudden passing of Carrie Fisher only a day earlier, the shock and trauma suffered by the 84 year-old Debbie Reynolds would have been unimaginable and more than most could bear.

Film and musical enthusiasts of all ages will likely know of her from 1952’s Singin’ in the Rain, or perhaps remember her signature song, Tammy, which was once the inspiration for my mum in naming a cat. Still seeming as vibrant and vivacious over 60 years later, her good-humoured tweets of recent months reveal a passion for life that belied her advancing years and clearly demonstrate the love she had of people and family. She may have still been Kathy Selden on the inside, but she was much more that, too.

Actress and singer, film archivist and historian, mother and grandmother, humanitarian and more, Debbie Reynolds will forever be adored by generations of fans. The world will be a poorer place without her, but with her body of work including her 2015 book, Make ‘Em Laugh, she will never fail to make us smile.
