Back in June I was in Leeds on way to a wedding with Mrs KBLF when, as I was putting some shopping into the boot an old lady drove into me crushing my legs between the two vehicles. I was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with acute compartment syndrome. I was rushed to theatre and a fasciotomy performed. I spent 3 weeks in Leeds General and had a further 3 operations. Anyway 7 months on I have not long started walking. I have been told that I will never play rugby or football again and neither will I be able to return to front line Policing (I will walk with a permanent limp. I just wondered if anyone on here has suffered with Compartment syndrome and if so what you were told or how you recovered from it??? I've attached a couple of photos from after the fasciotomy and skin grafts. If you are squeamish then don't click on them.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

Sorry to hear that, good luck with the future. I haven't had Compartment Syndrome but I do walk with an almost permanent limp and spend most days with discomfort. I am still fairly active though had to give up running earlier this year so cycle in stead. My recommendation would be find a good physio, one who preferably has experience with your condition. I found doctors and surgeons are fine from a procedural perspective but crap when it comes to rehab. I missed out on a few months of rehab work because I listened to my surgeon. "Just use it as normal" From a psychological perspective you will find it tough but try and focus on all the things you can do, not can't.

OOhhhhhhhhhhhh, that is truly awful.
You're asking me what it's all about, and I can't tell you because I don't know what's going on myself. |

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. Yes the first physio I had was quite poor. When I raised some issues with him he said 'well to be honest I mainly deal with necks, shoulders and backs'!! The one I have now is very good. Yes I get the same with the discomfort. It's permanent. Also I get terrible numbness and circulation problems in both lower legs. Something I've been told that may well last forever unfortunately. The psychological issues have taken me by surprise to. With everything I have seen in the job nothing has ever really bothered email that much bit since this I've been diagnosed with PTSD and severe anxiety. I never believed in panic attacks before but now I've been having them I can honestly say they are bloody horrible!! Edited by kennybrowns leftfoot (21 Dec 2016 4.08pm)
