PALACE FOR EVER London 18 Nov 16 2.05pm | |

This is the kind of use of public money that annoys me. Surely they can contribute a good percentage of this? I'm almost certain that it will be a lot more than this as well. I'm sure they don't know anything about the value of money 775 rooms, sounds a good place for hide and seek.
The pyramid to beat all pyramids!! Find out what team is in which division, eg which division is Coppull United in? |

Why we send hundreds of millions of quid over to SW1 I have no idea. That's money that could be used for the NHS. Equivalent to £500,000 per room. Bargain!

It's dwarfed by the £3bn they're spending on the Palace of Westminster. C*nts.

I can see the builder now, strolling around, cap on the back of his head. Shaking his head and blowing his cheeks out, "I dunno, looks like you've had some right cowboys in here. And you want it done when?" I like to think so anyway!

They spend more than £150,000 per month on maintenance for Holyrood already, and that was only built 12 years ago at a cost of £414m. They estimated it would cost between £10 & £40m Edited by Stuk (18 Nov 2016 2.39pm)

I'm struggling with this one. The institution of Royalty is bonkers to me but it represents Britain. The Royal buildings are also a symbol of Britain. It could be argued that the expense is in the public interest as is maintaining the royals themselves. The alternative is a country who's iconography and architecture is owned by the Chinese, Americans or the Arabs or one who's symbols of power are falling into ruin.

The problem is, what is the alternative? Let them fall into complete disrepair and build "affordable housing"? Both the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace form part of what attracts visitors to London. Irrespective of whether we keep the royal family.

Presumably it needs the money as they have not kept it up though the years still lets cut and cut until the roof falls in. Anyway we couldn't have had a better monarch why not abolish parliament and save the 3bn?

Historic Royal Palaces (Tower of London, Hampton court Palace and some others) are self financed so it can be done. I have no problem with a £400 million refurb of Buckingham Palace but maybe open it up for more than 7 weeks a year to help finance it.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |
