Because the conservatives were in power from 1979 to 1998, and then Blair's New Labour from 1998 until Cameron's government took over in 2010 (admittedly with some liberal democrats in its first incarnation). So realistically, there has been no 'liberal or left wing government' in the UK since 1979, and even then they were only in power for five or so years, following Ted Heath. i.e. a load of hyperbole right wing bollocks and nonsense.

Reaganomics, Thatcherism, the deregulation of banks, the abolishing of rent controls, aggressive capitalism, privatisation of public services, mass media collusion, etc.

It's all relative. If you are a Momentum supporter you regard practically anyone else as being right-wing. If you are a BNP supporter you regard practically everyone else as liberal/left.

Not great. I believe for society to function properly you need the left wing as much as the right. Why we want one destroyed and obliterated is beyond me. Same theory that for a strong accountable government we need a strong decent opposition or you give free reign for them to do and say as they like.

Well according to Allister Heath - who I've met and is a bit of a tool - it was Blair and then Cameron. The entire analysis - that the "liberal Left" is dead - is effectively based on horrendously feeble foundations anyway. One general election result, a referendum that was within the error margins, and some opinion polls. And it is fatuous anyway as it ascribes Cameron to the liberal left.

Oh come on Jamie, surely you are pretending to not know what this refers to. It's not the old party-centric nature of whose in power now. It's the cultural liberalization of PC culture, political feminism, the body positivity movement and all other manifestations of the cultural liberalised left. Cameron himself....under the guise of modernization pushed his party into this straight jacket...The leadership embraced it but the party core never have...It's mostly to satisfy and sate the media who...love all these new ideological weapons as it gives them tools for sensationalism and to produce mock horror in their rags. In reality all that emerges from this is attempts at censorship. Thought policing....I still haven't got over that university guy being sacked over stating his opinion about women in labs at a private dinner. People are scared to have 'unfashionable' opinions now in case some section of society are offended. These attitudes have infected all parties over the last few decades and with the emerging of the alt right and Ukip there is at least a definable movement that is sticking two fingers at this cultural thought policing.
