I have been on here before asking about housing as I am homeless and really desperate. If anyone has somewhere I can rent short term, even a caravan on the coast, any thing anywhere, as long as the rent is not too out of my league. I am 68 and retired so a moderate rent if possible, I am fully house trained, ex army so will keep everything clean and tidy. I am on my local ( Colchester council ) housing list for accommodation. But am in very urgent need of somewhere to put a roof over my head until they can help me out, for maybe 4 months or even less. I have tried all the ex vets, British Legion, SSAFA etc. etc. but no go as yet. If anyone can help I would be very grateful for any short term accommodation to help me out.

Wish I could help, it's disgusting that you haven't been given any help. Hopefully someone will come through for you.

If you can produce references, how about house sitting? Rent free, may have to look after pets etc, and you are tied to the house for a fixed number of hours per day......... a blog here about it, and Google gives you some agency names and sites too..... Edited by becky (13 Jul 2016 5.09pm)

Problem is, if you move out of the Colchester area, you could end up off the housing list. Try [Link] - some are expensive, but there may be one or two cheap options, which could be viable for a few months.

Yeah, if I do move from the Colchester area I will lose what they call the local connection, so really got to stay in this area. Also, if you are over 65 and on a pension you are automatically classed as dss, don't know why but you are. I've got the funds to rent but just keep hitting a brick wall, most if not all on the flat share site certainly do not want people of 68, most do not want people past 40. Maybe they think you just die when you get to 41 a ? I really think that Colchester council will help but it might just be a few months. I did go to one council, won't say who, and said I served my country for 13 years and the lady just shrugged, never mind I won't have to serve my country again will I. The local connection of being British and serving Britian didn't work for me on this occasion.

Very best of good fortune. Plenty of Churches also offer homeless support. Finally, Cameron was asked about homelessness situation today at PMQs = lame response and ultimately lamer legacy as PM. Keep believing and stay positive.
