I'm planning on a trip to take in the Philly and Cincinnati games in July and then planning to go back home via New York and Niagara Falls. Any tips on where to stay? (Particular hotels you've liked), how long you recommend in each place to do the touristy bits. Also the easiest way to get to Niagara Falls - fly to Toronto and do a day trip from there? Any tips on where to stay? (Particular hotels you've liked), how long you recommend in each place to do the touristy bits.

Also the easiest way to get to Niagara Falls - fly to Toronto and do a day trip from there?

Toronto Airport (Pearson) is about a 2 hr drive from Niagara Falls.So to take a trip on the Maid of the Mist, do the walk behind the Falls and other touristy stuff is easily doable in a day.Lots of motels offer cheap parking for the day right on the main strip.

One thing to be aware of is if your visa allows for multiple entries to the US. There are numerous tours from New York City (2 days by road, 1 day by air) or from Toronto, many tours include border crossing. I've not been, however in a previous job sold many tours, depending on the time of year try to get on the Maid of the Mist (US side) or Hornblower (Canadian side). One thing to be aware of is if your visa allows for multiple entries to the US. There are numerous tours from New York City (2 days by road, 1 day by air) or from Toronto, many tours include border crossing. I've not been, however in a previous job sold many tours, depending on the time of year try to get on the Maid of the Mist (US side) or Hornblower (Canadian side).

Regarding the Falls boat trip.The Hornblower company does operate from the Canadian side and is a catamaran.Also there's a regular single hulled boat called Maid of the Mist that also operates from the Canadian side I've been on it several times and it's still there according to the tourist website.The Maid of the Mist company does operate from the US side but there would be no point in considering that.The Skylon Tower would be worth a visit as it gives a good panoramic view over the Niagara region.

Went there 2 years ago .. interesting place to spend half a day. Was on the Canadian side so hired a car and took 2 hours from Toronto which seemed enough to see whats needed.. definitely do the boats.. there are a few kiosks near the falls which set off every few minutes but even so queues can be large sometimes.. you can park nearby. about a minute walk.. or if your lucky there are cafes near the perimeter that let patrons stay for a few hours.. Toronto Niagara Toronto was a good full day.. not so impressed with Toronto.. stay near the water for some decent restaurants but Trip advisor will point you the way.. New York... get a mortgage for your hotel.. I'd definitely say hunt around for the bargains.. we booked bang on Central Park 59th in the Marriot and hated it.. old rooms and rude.. would have been happy on 57, 55 or 53.. but next time we go, we'll probably stay in Greenwich Village.. which is good for night life.. restaurants (best burger ever at Minetta Tavern). Good luck.. great place (apart from NY Hotels).. Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just don't have film.

Niagara is a long way from New York (have driven it personally) and the Canadian side is much better. Easy drive from Toronto just for the day. If you want to try something different then suggest you also visit Niagara on the Lake. Centre for the Niagara wine region and also home of the Whirlpool Jet Boat tours which will ride you up the whirlpool, fun and bouncy ride, if you go on this take swimming gear and change before getting on as you will get wet on the boat. Niagara has the Casino and the 'seaside resort' things like Ripley's believe it or Not plus lots of Hotels. Niagara on the Lake is about 20 minutes down the road (ok could be 30) and has lots of B&Bs (North American style) if you prefer that sort of thing. Wine tours do minibus pickup and drop back if you want that. The local Canadian wines are pretty good. Bridge crossing between the two countries can get snarled up so making it across to the US should be a decision left to the day. Maid of the Mist definitely worth it, have also done the walk behind the falls. All the events will get you somewhat wet but in July the weather will be warm if not downright hot.

Pretty much what I would have added. Except I drove from Cleveland to Niagra. Go to the Canadian side but don't stay there, it's like Blackpool, while Niagra on the lake is far more pleasant.
