A true icon. Up there with Elvis, Lennon, Monroe, possibly the most recognisable man that ever lived. People can debate his position in the greats of boxing but anyone of a certain age will know that he was more than just a boxer or a sportsman. He was walking charisma. His appearance in the ring was an event way more exciting than just another boxing match. Few have come close to that level and without him, boxing would have been nothing like the attraction it has remained. His impact on pretty much everything and everybody resonates.

Growing up this was a man I aspired to be, and failed miserably. Stood up for what he believed in, knocked down those that tried to dethrone him. Simply the best. RIP Great man.

Not just a genius boxer but a very brave and highly intelligent man. One that even the islamophobes must have grudging respect for I'd imagine. "No Vietcong ever called me n1gger" he said, for those that don't know, when asked why he refused to join the US army. The Parky shows too. Classic tv. RIP

RIP Mohamed Ali: "Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights?" "Man, I ain't got no quarrel with them Viet Cong. No Vietcong ever called me ******."

The term Legend is often banded about and demeans the term, but to describe Ali as a legend is perfectly correct. He was a wonderful athlete, showman and human being..... he was cooler than The Fonz. As a fellow Parkinson's sufferer, I know what he has endured this past 30 years, but kept his dignity. RIP Cassius Clay/Mohammed Ali.
