Doesn't do it for me. Firstly I don't like Chris Evans, he thinks he's still cool and people like programs full of of celeb luvvies. TFI Top Gear just doesn't work. Matt le Blanc is not a presenter, it seems like, again, Evans thought the public would be impressed with a top celeb booking. Clarkson with May and Hammond were Top Gear, their bumbling middle class blokey style was TV genius for me I will watch it again to see if it grows on me but I doubt it.

Wasn't expecting much and it was just as I thought. Not very good at all. The UK vs America thing was just s***. Chris Evans I don't like and Matt le Blanc or whatever his name is was worse. His rude jokes he tried making were just not funny and made him sound like a prick. Maybe this will be the last season of Top Gear? It's just not the same anymore.

Didn't notice much difference. It was crap before, and it still is.

It was lacking a little something, needs a third presenter. I like many am not feeling Chris Evans but it's early days yet and they were bound to be on a hiding to nothing. I thought it was ok and will watch it again. Is the Clarkson/Amazon thing on yet?

the only thing that was better was the new test track with off road rally section. Everything else was worse, far far worse

Evans was very shouty - had to bring Danny Baker in to make the script funnier- not that I'd noticed. Still it took about 1 1/2 series for the last lot to develop a rapport so I'll give it time before completely dismissing it.

I think that many people had already decided that they didn't like it before the show had even aired with their main problem being that Chris Evans isn't their beloved Jeremy Clarkson. It took the original Top Gear a year or more before they got it right yet the same people that were happy to watch the show despite it's growing pains are happy to write the new version off straight away.

I didn't watch the first episode, and I have no intention of watching the series, as I can't stand Chris Evans at any price; nothing whatsoever about his not being JC, I just can't watch or listen to anything the bloke is in. I did look at the reviews, and the general consensus is that they've made the error of trying to make the same programme (with minor tweaks), but with different people. That was always going to be a mistake as, like they did in 2002, they needed to come up with a brand new format, all of their own. That may have still been a slow-burner to start with (as you say the 2002 show was), but it would have avoided the inevitable comparisons between this and the Clarkson/Hammond/May shows.

A tough act to follow and it was a bit 'cringe' at times. Same old same old but not as good. Early days, 6/10.
Time to move forward together. |
