I find the term "lightly beat" intriguing - sounds a bit like something you would find in a recipe book.

So, anyway, what constitutes lightly beating? Striking your wife with a rolled up newspaper, a clip round the ear, a couple of punches to the solar plexus?

And who will measure and adjudicate as to whether the beating was indeed light, or was perhaps a tad heavy?

Not really surprised. Of course there are many exceptions, but if you've ever talked to a common muslim from egypt or Sudan, they will be of this mindset
