The bloke who beat the Isle of Wight council at the magistrates court over taking his daughter out of school for a holiday, has now beaten them again in the high court. Now they should all stop penalising sensible parents and wasting council funds trying to prosecute them.

Taking him to the high court after losing in the magistrates was just c***ish. Hopefully they have to pay all the costs, which will make them think twice about doing the same again. It won't of course, as it's not their money that they fritter away.

All that will happen is that the Government will tighten up the law to close this loophole.

There was a study on the effects of fines for collecting kids late from nursery. When fines were trialled, the parents came later as it removed the guilt and it became a cheap babysitter. Even with fines for taking kids out, it's still likely cheaper than going away during school holidays. It's a ridiculous system. Change it or stop airlines etc overcharging. There's supply and demand and then there's taking the p1ss.

If I took my boy for a week on holiday in term time I would tell them where to stick their fine. Just who the hell do these people think they are? As long as it's not a regular thing. It's the old saying, 'Give someone just a little bit of power and they WILL ALWAYS abuse it'
